It was composed such that the attention dwelled to the rear, hence making the bokeh more distracting.

You can attempt to compose tighter to make bokeh work for you, hiding the flaws of the equipment and execute the intention.

Bokeh is supposed to compliment the photo or surrounding.
More does not always mean good.
IMO I would actually stop down for that shot , too much bokeh already on my side. A little underexposed as well IMO.
