Actually, it doesn't give you more simultaneous downloads. What it does is to prevent the "rate limiting" of new connections that SP2 introduces.

This directly impacts how fast new connections can be made in a certain time frame. If you have more than 10 (the default in SP2), then the rest are simply "buffered".
