On February 5, 2008, Apple Inc. filed to protect their Apple trademark in relation to “hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games”.

While analyst predictions and rumors of an Apple handheld gaming unit have been around for a while, little prior to this trademark filing has supported that any kind of “iGame” type unit is actually being developed. The exception was recent news from AppleInsider that Apple would be forming a closer bond with once-rival Intel in 2008 and begin building a new breed of ultra-mobile processors from the chipmaker into a fresh generation of handheld gadgets.

I think they want to start developing apps and games for the touch and iphone. Then they'll start charging insane amounts for games...

Or... now their lawyers will have a field day sueing all those developers making games for jail-broken iphones and touches.

Apple always applies for patents, even if they're not going to use it. I personally think they're just going to develop games for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

I'd almost feel sorry for them if they actually think they know a lot about games.

Can't wait to see what Apple gonna surprise the world once again. It will be cool to know how/what Apple will create their own console or handheld device for gaming.

However, most likely they'll only develop games for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPods. If they were to develop their own console, they're committing suicide.

They should work on more industry support and alliance to bring games to the Mac.

That and more compatibility with the latest graphics and sound cards. That will help the Mac gaming scene.

if apple creates something as thin as the macbook air as their launchpad for their stint into the portable gaming world, I'D SUPPORT IT!

I wouldn't be surprised if they just added the phrase Gaming Edition to their line up of iPhones and iPod Touches..

comes equipped with ATi radeon mobility or nvidia mobile M?..

now, that's called gaming for the masses.. for now, all apple needs is a better battery and it's a LARGE push..

seeing how in 1 year, apple iPhone has shot up to 26% - 28% share of the US's smartphone market.. where blackberry, nokia, htc, dopod were the mainstayers..

it wont be long before you see iPwnPortable or iPwn around and gobbling up the market shares of microsoft, sony and nintendo.
