Connecting Ipod Touch with home wireless boyanmetal Feb 7th, 09, 10:48 AM #1 (permalink)
Hello guys and maybe gals,

I'm a new user to Ipod Touch. I just got a 1st gen Ipod Touch. Already the jbreak myself and now I'm trying to connect to my home wireless to test out the nice things about jbroken itouch. But I can't connect to my wireless router. Can anybody help out?

Some details:
Wireless router: D-Link DIR-655
802.11 mode: n, g & b
Security mode: WEP
Devices successfully connected via wireless: a laptop and PSP

When the iTouch ask for password, does it mean the WEP keys or the router PIN? I tried both but can't seem to get my iTouch thru.

Are all applications that can only run after jailbreak be install via wireless only? Via cable, NO? Sorry for noob qns.

security = WEP - APPLE products works better with WPA or WPA2 actually.

DIR-655 on WEP is a waste.. your wireless N wil not be activated.

ur last question i have no idea what you are trying to describe.

Thanks for the reply. Ok, I will try on WPA.

As for my router, my laptop is only on G. Cant go on to N unless I buy another of that wireless N adaptor. For me, it's ok since I'm not using my laptop for downloading or playing games. The router is a birthday gift, so yeah.

As for my last question, does all non-Apple official applications (in PSP / PS3/ Xbox360 term, they are called as 'homebrew') be only installed via Cydia? I got that impression when I ask my other friend who also had a Ipod Touch and he said that. Any way to installed cable?

@ reddevil0728
Sorry, I meant Ipod Touch. I was acronym-ing it to iTouch.

Kindly refrain from earning post if you ain't interested in helping that poor guy out

1st u ask what an itouch is, next u simply answer it yourself.

Ur way of earning post simply disgust me.

If you ain't interested in helping that guy out, don't bother answering to his dismay.

Installed cable? You mean installing using the usb cable?
No. Unless is official apple app store.
You can dl yr apps wirelessly thru yr ipod touch thru cydia.
Some people provide apps thru the net, so you dl it on your computer then SSH to yr ipod touch. (Which is still wireless)

without first correcting the misconception, it will confuse others.

and i am also disgusted by how people like you think of others who correct other people of the misconception as an attempt of gaining post count. i think it's time to think out of the box that post count is everything to you. your post is a classic example.

without first correcting the misconception, it will confuse others. <- you are the only one being confused i believe. Why is this so? The problem right now lies with you or others?

when you attempt to google or yahoo "itouch" - this is what you get:
http://sg.search.yahoo.com/search?p=...&cop=&ei=UTF-8
http://www.google.com.sg/search?hl=e...e+Search&meta=

why is this so? If its a misconception means google and yahoo is not doing their job? WIERD.. to many - even search engine...ITOUCH is a straight answer of IPOD TOUCH unless you are trying to be funny.

on my stand, you are just trying to make yourself classic instead of correcting him - here he needs a solution to his queries and not an correction. disgusting!

Why are you not helping and instead trying to be funny? Will your correction helped him?

and one more thing... from your other "classic" post - it seems that im not alone being disgusted by your gesture. LOL - please, reflect on your attitude before correcting others. thanks.

Hey reddevil0728, do watch your attitude pls. Our forum is supposed to be a friendly place remember? The mods are aware that you try to be helpful in doing your part to remind others to post in correct forums, point out their infringements of forum rules, correct their mistakes etc. But the kind of short-tempered, caustic one-liners like in this thread are themselves not encouraged in the forum. You need to be more discerning. There is a difference between a member persistently ignoring forum rules or spamming, and others who make genuine mistakes or are new. There is no need to bark at anyone and everyone.

So, pls remind yourself and your clone to play nice with the rest of the forum rather than trying to act like a rude discipline master all the time. There's no point having a forum where all technical rules are observed because the entire forum is full of members impatiently snapping at one another is there?

lol, i had the same arguement with mr reddevil0728 on HWZ a few months back, he just refuses to acknowledge that itouch is a colloquial term for ipod touch, pretending not to know that itouch is refering to the ipod touch

And he loves to have an arguement with anyone who ask him what is wrong with calling the ipod touch an itouch.
