Qn on buying used iPhone tyranimo Sep 27th, 09, 02:23 PM #1 (permalink)
Hey guys.

I might be looking around for a 2nd hand iphone soon since my plan still has a year to go, and I probably can't afford paying 1.2k for a new 3GS.

I'm looking at probably getting a 2nd hand 3G iphone and have some queries regarding the purchase of buying a used one.

What I would like to know is if there is any risk buying a 2nd hand phone. I understand you have to register the Iphone online via itunes? So I'm going to assume that it would be under the 1st owners name yeah? So what happens when I take it over from him? Will I be able to do a total reformat and restore factory settings?

I also read that there's a function for users to remotely lock/erase the memory of their iphone via this mobileme service. If I buy a used iphone, will the previous owner be able to immobilize/tinker with my iphone from such services?

Cheers and thank you for your help in advance! =]

If you are concern about warranty you can always see if the set have receipt and check the warranty online with the serial number. You will be about to reformat the phone back to original setting via setting in the iPhone.

As I said about you can reset everything back to original setting such as networking, wifi, apps etc all back to original. Dont think the previous user will be able to lock the phone.

Correct me if I am wrong as I am just a new iPhone user.
