any shops that can assist in Mac Mini ram + hdd upgrade? burnz Oct 12th, 09, 03:36 PM #1 (permalink)
wondering if there are any 3rd party shops (i.e. non Apple) that can provide cheap service to upgrade the ram and hdd on my Mac mini? i can provide the necessary hardware, but just need someone with expertise in opening up the Mac mini and replacing the parts.

Sorry to hijack, I'm also wondering if any Apple Premium store can assist me in migrating my old HDD to new HDD. My HDD is out of space soon. =/

i eventually decided to go DIY way.
the only thing stopping me previously was the slight difficulty in opening up the mac mini's case, but after getting a couple of putty knives from the hardware store, i got it opened with ease and started getting familiar with the internal layout. the youtube tutorials helped a lot too.

anyway, i just received my new T7400 cpu upgrade off ebay (US$150), and currently awaiting arrival of my Superdrive (also from ebay, US$40). just need to pop by SLS to pick up 2Gb sodimm and a 500Gb 2.5" sata hdd, and i'll get started on the DIY upgrade.

oh forgot. need to wait for my replacement mac mini power adaptor too. my dog had a field day chewing up the wire off the adaptor. checked with local apple service centre, buggers wanted to charge me $180 for the damn power brick. basically told them to shove it up their ... and ordered a replacement adaptor from macbookadaptor.com for US$40 shipped

OSX has a built-in migration assistant utility.
just do a complete backup of your current HDD using Time Machine, install your new HDD and fresh OSX installation, then use migration assistant to restore from your Time Machine backup.
