COMEX 2009: GAMING PC TheLatency Sep 10th, 09, 02:43 PM #1 (permalink)
[VR-Zone Comex 2009 Forums]

I need help buying a gaming pc for my son. I have been looking at some brands like acer and pluto. Acer aspire m7720 looks nice, but the graphic card is only gt230. PLuto optimax only have an ati radeon 4670 which is equally lousy. My son is a hardcore gamer and he wants something better than his brother, which his brother has an nvidia gtx 260 black edition. Any brand suggestion ? or should I go DIY?

Why diy? I heard it is more unstable , and that there is no warranty. Also, it saves me trouble of installing the parts together

Go to any of the more reliable shops at Sim Lim Square. Tell them what you're looking for, and your budget (or pick a pre-configured package and modify/add on). They build it for you, you get a much better machine for the price, and if there are any problems you can just bring it back to them. The best part is, SLS is usually deserted when these big PC fairs are going on so you can get their undivided attention instead of jostling with 20,000 other people at Suntec
Use in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of n00bs. Overclock within 24 hours of opening.
Do not read instructions before proceeding, do not use only as directed. May cause frustration, late nights and empty wallets.
If symptoms persist please consult your hardware professional.

Why do you say no warranty? Of course there is. For every single part you purchase, there IS warranty for the parts with their respective distributor.

I would go for DIY.

I rather he get a config here, write it down on a piece of paper, go SLS get everything in 1 shop, free assemble.

Go into a shop ask for gaming pc = chop carrot. High possibility they'll just recommend you shitty products at high price.

DIY at sim lim. After so many years of comex, if theres 1 thing it I have learnt, that is not to attempt to build a DIY at comex.

Comex normally for all-in-a-bundle system. For best value for money, sim lim.

Well, i heard that when your computer that is build in sim lim get spoiled, you will not know the problem, and that the retailer will start scamming . My company had an experience which my boss went to sim lim 5-6 times, each time they charge money.
