My (rather) Detailed analysis of *affordable* laser printers Aimevous Sep 10th, 09, 11:29 PM #1 (permalink)
I spent roughly 6 hours visiting and revisiting all the printer booths today and managed to put all the data i collected into an excel file.

But due to bad handwriting or bad memory, some info are missing, but anyway here they are:

printers

My conclusion from the analysis:

Cheap printers have damn high printing costs. So the price is a gimmick.

The printer I bought?

Lexmark E260ND

I was drawn by the free toner. I didn't have time to do more calculations whether the cost per page is actually lower. I just happened to go to Lexmark last and was tired and the free toner seemed great since I'm a home user.

If any of my info is wrong, feel free to let me know and I'll update it.

Oh, btw does anyone knows how to paste the contents inside here so to avoid pple from clicking external links (I know its distracting).

Nice spreadsheet. Thanks!!

Sidetrack:
Anyway, we used to have a little joke between me and friends - whenever we bought 99$ laser printers, we often do not buy toners. If it runs out of toner, we just replace it with another 99$ printer.

Err... This isn't a joke. People ACTUALLY do this.

It actually applies to people or businesses that print quite a bit.

Whats best is to find a printer that is compatible with the refill toners/ink cartridges. Those are the best ones.

Need to update abit. I bought a Samsung 1640. Additional toner at $65 and they gave me a trolley. Bundled toner is supposed to yield 700 pages as well.

quite reverse, its actually for ppl who seldom print actually...

i bought 2 sets of HP, think few years ago, 100+ that time, only changed toner once, cos seldom print... ya, toner more ex than the printer...

but i think the initial toner is lesser capacity than the retail one... so ppl who seldom print benefit...

i also have a KM color laser, haven changed any toner yet, the thing spoilt already... and printing darn slow... cmi... lucky it spoilt, can get another new printer as justification.

i think canon printers are good as their software is very efficient... hence i've changed most of my lasers to Canon.

I am using the Xerox C1110B brought 2 PC show ago at 279 with $30 cash card. Pretty worth it.

It's cost only $50 to refill fully and its quite easy too. The plus thing is that the toner and fuser is separate from each other. Can refill until the fuser give way.

No offers from HP?

I currently have a HP LJ home printer. The printer is quite tough, replaced one toner already...used for about 4 yrs, still going strong leh.

I wonder cash converter will take it in for how much.

samsung printer toner got a cap under its 2 screws.
unscrew
pop the cap
refill
pop back
screw back

got a $99 samsung printer since 2006, been thru 7 refills.
toner powder cost next to nothing if you buy a big bag.
