Boo, what happened to the van/pickup idea? :)
IIRC the gearbox issue is the CVT on some Honda model right? Let me ask my friend again, i remember he told me before.

Boot space is one thing. Boot design is another.
The Jazz and Altis have vastly different boot layout. One is more versatile than the other. Jazz being the versatile one. But of course having many ways to configure boot space comes at a cost to rear passenger space.
Depending on your need Boo, you can't go too wrong with either honestly.
If you consider the most metal for money, then Altis.

4 - 5 with pram both also can.
4 - 5 with pram AND groceries, then Altis ba... Its value for money for sure.

i tink with pram shouldn't be a problem... and abt gearbox issue.. so far my fit hasn't any issue at all...
if with groceries, to me, jazz has no problem.... but each to his own...
i feel tt jazz is more flexible... let's say oni u and ur wife and the baby are in the car and u need more bootspace, this is where the jazz's magic seats come in... fold down either one of the rear seats, more boot space liao..
but take note.. on full load, a stock jazz doesn't really have much power.. 1 thing to take note...

Honda Airwave is more than 60k...so it's out. Altis is good for family esp when booest wanted 4-5 person with 1 x pram.
Honda Jazz can fit 3 humans plus 1 pram very nicely. Just nice for small family. For booest's I would choose altis.
But do note that there are paint issues on current altis made in Thailand and worksmanship isn't exactly very great so do watch out for that. But other than that... good family car....
PS : Booest bro, u say earlier I might join in.....cos 2 weeks again still looking for car of around 1.6L - 1.8L after I got my license. But I book one liao so cannot join in else it's another MO liao LOL

I think Altis are worth buying if u are considering the maintance in future....as ALTIS is a lot on the market, the spare parts should be cheaper. No Doubt. I have a ALTIS in my family and it works fine.

underpowered engine
takeshi_umuro
January 4th, 2007, 11:22 PM
it's used for family ferrying purposes. Thus engine as long as not so bad and can tahan the uphill slopes and carparks, I dun think booest will mind. In the first place, would you risk your family esp with a baby to go up to speed of 130km/h in SG? Altis is targetted at families not chiongers
No offence but I still think life is more impt than whether the car can go super duper fast etc. In SG can't race anw ..... of cos I wouldn't deny that if you got the extra cash can go for better cars but always your own life comes first lor
Peace to all

wats the diff from jazz and fit ah?
Fit is directly from Japan i.e factoy settings everything is done in Japan. Thus when the car is brought in from PI, it's the exact same structure, settings and body shape of how japan fit would look like. As for jazz, it's factory setting is not done in Japan. Thus it's not the same as the jazz in japan when compared.
It's just like toyota cars in BM. For example camry 2.0 is made from thailand and engine made in China. Whereas PI 2.4G camry is directly from Japan.
An additional note to make, PI cars are 2 whel drive unlike authorised dealers, thus it does help to save cost for petrol consumption.
I'm working in World of wheels currently, a well-established PI company which is in the market for 6-7years. I have friends in Komoco, BM nd KM thus i have a little insight of such things.
Anyway booest i have pm you. :)

underpowered engine
sorry, but i sat in my friend's altis before.
hit 185-190km/hr on NSH.
RPM around 4600.
everything stock except for drop-in stainless steel air filter and bigger rims.
should be able to go higher if not for the ECU speed limitation.
a piggyback will solve the problem easily.

airwave slightly more expensive.
the car feel quite stable around the corners, guess it's partly due to the centre fuel tank design.
a very easy and comfy ride.
or since you are looking at PI cars, maybe you can consider Wish.
spacious and good FC too.

Altis got gearbox problem??????
owners of these 2 cars please advice
Hi Booest,
I owned a Jazz before trading it in for an Altis. Let me share about the pros & cons before I tell you my preference.
Jazz
Pros - Great fuel consumption (15km/l 60Hw/40Tn), good built, comfortable ride, good seats, spacious for a hatchback, responsive gearbox, quiet engine, good sound insulation, good uphill pickup, boot space ok for family(pram, shopping items & baby bag)
Cons - Expensive, small back seat
Altis
Pros - Cheap, ok fuel consumption for an 1.6l(11.5km/l 60Hw/40Tn), spacious, fast & good resale value
Cons - Cheapskate tom yam car(average interior), slow pickup esp uphill and lousy lousy insulation(noisy-when rain u feel like u in NS training shelter)
I kinda regret trading in my Jazz for the altis but we must make do with what we have right? I will go for the Jazz/Fit if I don't mind paying more. Btw, both Jazz & Fit are the same vehicle but in Japan, there are 1.5l versions. The Jazz 1.4 & Fit 1.3 are the same vehicle if you look at the specs.
Hope this can help you decide better.

Personally I use the altis. I feel the only drawback would be the pickup. But I guess in sg, pickup isn't that important unless entering expressway, cannot just chiong in. Interior wise is fine, cannot compare to the civic but against the sunny or the lancer it is equal or better. The suspension is tuned to give comfort. Overall, u get what u pay. Maybe its best you pop down to sgaltis.com or the fit/jazz forums to read up and see how good or bad it is.
Finally, before you buy, must test drive. my 2 cents:hat1:

boo, how about the corolla axio

Axios should be 60k as of now for PI....but when comes in....hard to say...
but based on last 2 models of corrolla and if it's taking over altis, high chance the start price would take on to be around 60k
Just took my dad's altis for a ride days ago.....not too bad as of drive. Pickup slightly better than Mazda 3....M3 sucks on pickup. But again if it's for family it should be good.... cos pretty decent price but I would still choose axios over altis cos no matter wat a newer model is still better. But news goes that axios is coming in only in 2008?
anyone got any update on this?

nonsense... if that were true.. many cars on the road would be a hazard... including mini cooper, golf, civic typeRs (EG/EK/EP & ES series), wish, odyssey, and many other hatches and mpvs...
correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that it's because of the body structure that makes these hatches safe... the spare tyre compartment is also there to absorb some of the rear impact during a collision

Ehh, dunno if you bought already lar.
Here's my take on Jazz/Fit
Basically its the same. Both our Jazz/Fit is born and bred in Japan. Our Tom-Yam friends up north also makes them, but not imported in S'pore.
The Good:
Fuel Consumption Wise, me driving auto, can hit about 14.9KM/litre after about 1 yr.
Mine is 1.3/1.4 iDSL engine, so pickup is only average. However the Jazz/fit comes with a very smooth CVT transmission with very smooth gear change.
The good thing about the Jazz is the magic sits behind, and the spacious front
If you compare the Suzuki Swift and Jazz, you can find the big difference in interior in terms of space.
Also, there are many folding variations to the sits behind, and allows you to fit in even a 37" CRT TV (boxed) / Large Colour HP laser Printer. ( I tried before..hehe)
Also, its in the market for quite long, a lot of spare parts (2nd hand) are readily available, via the fit and jazz forum (in cause u buang lar). Happened to me also...
The bad:
Default ICE from KM not so good, the alarm (fitted in S'pore) not so good also. Insurance for Honda higher (not confirmed).
My 2 cents worth.
