Dont know if you have seen the Toyota TRD kit for all IS series.
Pretty damn good looking for a factory kit. Prices I dont know because I dont live in SG but with everything done from Frontal, Rear, side skirts, installed and painted, 2K+

What do you think of customization?

I dont think there are any Original TRD kits for the 2nd generations out yet.
I dont think there are aftermarket ones unless you decide to go custom. The problem is with the custom job, not many people do it. Especially with a car like the IS250 2nd Generation which isnt that popular among the car modding community, your chances of getting a kit could be limited.
Maybe you can start off with a front carbon fibre lip for the front, lower the springs, C-West Carbon GT wing, a set of Advan racing wheels should make your car extremely aggressive.

There are a few but in Singapore, it cost alot more to import.
Think i found a few workshops doing customization and may drop by to have a look.
Have you got any info on offsetting for wheels? Thinking of getting 19 incher.
Thanks.

Depending on what kind of looks you want...
Consider chromes?
I would think anything like a TE37 should give the IS a Japanese SuperCar look...19" is pimp and blind...not so race trended...

yeah.. chrome rims and the supercar look is what im looking for. Something like the IS-F.
I will have to wait till next week to see what the workshops can offer.
But offsetting is a concern. What size would you be recommending?

Wow, thats a factory TRD bodykit? looks real good on the 'IS' IMHO.

Now, I am not much of a chrome fanatic myself, so I wouldnt really know what brand you would perfer but I guess all the obvious ones are out there.
Consider "Konig Unknown" google it up for images. Its a combo of both "BLING" and "RACE" mixed into one set...Its cool but I dont think it will fit well visually with your IS. As for size, I think anything 18" will do. 19" would be nice, but consider a few things:
-Tyres will be very expensive
-Tyres could be slighly harder to source
-Now seriously, if performance is what you have in mind, 19 aint really going to do it
-Ride quality will be stiff
-May require chassis folding which is actually not really recommended
-May require a whole new suspension setup
Overall there are a bit too much to consider when going with 19"+
I think anything 18" will be good...and fair compatility to what you have at the moment...
235/40/18 for fronts
265/35/18 for rear
235 wide for the front due to the fact that your front tyres steer so must take that into account. A thickness of 40 is pretty much the minimum I would advise...anything less can not only be damagerous but also affect your handling.
As for the rear, 265 should give you plently of grip IIRC IS is FR... as for the rear, 35 should be good...thats a thickness specification used on many performance cars...
I dont know it its going to do for the IS but from what I know Nissan Skyline R32 can do 265/40/18 all round...

Yea I like that kit too and the overall IS look but sadly the engine used the Beam inline 4 is just too hard to extract decent power out of it...Its more of the VVTI NA type engine which doesnt like turbocharging...A Garrett GT25R turbo with around 15PSI to the boost only knocks down about 280~300BHP which isnt a lot...not only that, the engine will suffer from extreme turbo lag and only makes about the same amount of power as a stock GTR with a de-tuned ECU...compared to other 2.0L inline 4 engines...A S13, S14, S15 running the SR20DET engine would yield out an impressive 350BHP+ on similar setups...

1AZ-FSE is a 2.0L only busts out a mere 145BHP which is the common 2.0L inline 4 found on most Toyota cars.
IS200(1st Gen) however was born with a 2.0L 3S-GE BEAMS inline 4 which was especially tuned by Yamaha Motor Company which ranched out a impressive 210BHP.
IS250(2nd Gen) is packed with a 2.5L 4GR-FSE V6 that boasts a 205BHP with Dual VVTi.
3S-GE BEAMS makes more power per litre due to the high compression nature of the engine with a 10:1 ratio which is actually quite high for Japanese cars. There were also 2 variations of the 3S-GE BEAMS. Red top uses single VVTi while black top uses Dual VVTi, used on the current 4GR-FSE.
Despite having a lower Power per Litre compared to the 3S-GE BEAMS, the 4GR-FSE being a V6 should offer a much smoother engine attributes. Being a small engine like the 3S-GE BEAMS, to extract power like that requires the enhancement of VVTi to aid the overall speed increase, however because of this, you will find that the 3S-GE BEAMS would be a harder engine to drive, for you to kick every single horses out of that engine, you have to be knock them down at the right RPM...trust me...Honda is even worse at this due to VTEC...If you want Japanese Racing Style, 3S-GE BEAMS is what you want under your bonnet. If you the word Pimp'in Bling are you in diction, 4GR-FSE is right on...being a V6 modifications could be limited. If you are looking for some simple mods to your 4GR-FSE, I think a good air intake setup and exhaust setup are curcially important. Remove the stock "Air Box" and replace it with anything from pod or cone air filter from K&N. You can get hold of HKS Super Flow Filters but they are extremely expensive and not really worth the bucks...As for exhaust, a custom straight through with a 2.5~3.0" bore would be nice and finish it off with a Tanabe Titanium tip or a Devil Stainless european styled tip.
The 1st generations of IS was a more sporty fixture overall from the exterior to the interior. While the 2nd generation was more suttle, more mature than its predecessor. Its really obvious through the change of the exterior and interior and the engine choice.
If you had a look back on Japanese car tuning trends...the engines that really dominate in terms of Power per Litre really have to go with the Mazda 13B engines. 1.3L engine that packs a massive 280BHP punch or a softer 230BHP NA 13B setup on RX8s.
I thought the engine part might be really confusing so I colour coded it :D
There was no IS250 for the 1st Gen so I used the IS200 for comparison with the IS250.

Looking for the rims now.

Are you going with a full respray or just partial spray?

full respray if possible.. I dun wan it to look out of place or segregated. you know what i mean?
What performance upgrades would you think i should go for?
international
March 2nd, 2007, 04:31 PM
Thats great to hear that you are going for full respray.
Have a look at "House of Kolor" range of paints. I have to say, they make some of the best paints avaliable. For alternative options, consider sourcing original Toyota/Lexus paint.
As for the performance side of things, the basics are:
-Intake
-Exhaust
For the intake, change the original box filter to a full cone/pod filter. I would recommend K&N filters which can also be bought as a full intake kit. You can also consider the very expensive HKS SuperFlow filter.
For the exhaust, this can be slightly more complex dependant on the future upgrade. Do you want a turbo setup or remain as a NA setup?
For turbo setup, what you need is a custom made of exhaust housing. You will need to keep the current headers so that they are still compatible with the current NA setup. I would however, recommend that you dont turbo charge your engine due to the obvious reason.
If you want to extract as much power as you can out of the current NA engine. You want to start from the engine exhaust headers. This basically means a custom set of headers which will then lead down to another set of exhaust pipes. All this is mainly custom job as there are no kits avaliable for the IS250 therefore a custom setup is required. The advantage with custom setup is that you can customise it more. In terms of the nature of the mounting, you should be able to have them mounted high to prevent it hitting anything on the ground. Also use 3.5" pipes for maximum flow. Most cheap kits are usually just the tip slip ons which make virtually no additional powers just the sounds. With this whole custom setup, you should be able to yield a good 10~20BHP. Along with the intake upgrades, a good 15~25BHP is expected.
Now once those are done, to really finish the icing on the cake, you need an ECU fine tune. ECU is very vital here as this is really needed to cope with the added intake tune. A good ECU setup should see even more power come through. However, a whole ECU is very expensive, as many people just opt for a piggy back ECU which basically reprograms the original ECU. This can cause other system related problems. I would recommend the full ECU setup but you would be looking at a few thousands. A simple modification with ECU can really see the improvement especially with accerations however the downside is the decreased fuel effieciency.
Please dont take my estimations as the exact numbers as my experiences lack with the new Toyota V6 engines. My knowledge is mainly with the Nissan RB series, Mazda B series, Mitsubishi 4G63 and Subaru EJ series...
If you can provide me with more of your local tune enviroment, I would be able to help you out further...
