Student charged with abusing teacher in class

A 17-YEAR-OLD student was charged on Wednesday with using abusive language on a teacher in class earlier this year.
Jeremy Tan Wei Liang is accused of abusing Ms Tang Anqiong, 36, at Clementi Woods Secondary School at West Coast Road on April 26.

His lawyer, Mr Edmond Pereira, told the court that he would be making representations. A pre-trial conference will be held at Community Court on Dec 5.

If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $5,000 under the Miscellaneous Offences Act.

Hmm.....we're seeing the worse side of both.
Could be just a simple "f***" word and the teacher sue the student.

Seriously I think the teacher is damned petty. Grown up let a small kid get the better of his/her anger..... Should help him stop his bad attitude and not sue him........ what kinda teacher sue his/her own students. If thats the case I think the teacher doesn't gain my respect.

how you know using I think? the student are not small kid.

The whole pictures may have not included in the news which other pass-by staff may have seen/heard the incident (given the size of the classroom) and reported to the school headmaster/principle to investigate this matter.

Until more details are available, my preliminary feeling is that the school has gone overboard since discipline matters like abusive language should be handled within the school - the school should already have a disciplinary code in place to handle such things

Bringing this matetr to the police and court is simply too much - the only exception would be if the boy issues death threats or some other threats

Students should STFU when teachers scold them. Unless it's unreasonable, don't yell at them but say " Sir/Madam, I'm not deaf " politely.

This will turn around the scenario.

sometimes scoldin bac is not as useful as using twist in words n tone to indirectly shoot bac the teacher...summore if the hidden meaning is really veri obvious...it would make the teacher even more awkward n she can do nth since wad u said has 2 meaning...i experienced dis during my O's chem prac...da teacher realli nth to shoot back

Then if thats the case then im wrong to presume that the teacher is petty. But if the teacher was really the one..... As you said we don't know for sure right? :sarcastic Anyway juz my opinion

i dun think the techer acts alone as the principal and MOE will be involved with such things, in education no such thing as good publicity with court cases.

It probably was not an isolated incident.

Guys,

I think most of you are still schooling??? Secondary level?? Poly level?? Uni level???

Scolding vulgarites is a punishable offence under Penal Code. Worse if the students scolded 'fu*k' to a female teacher, tt can be sexual assault (Verbally). Sexual assault (Physically or verbally) is a serious offence. You won't be surprise that the boy can be caned for scolding vulgarities if he is in RTC.

Youngster nowadays no big no small. Deserves to be punished

your teacher provides an interesting pt...ask him take a bus to JB and go show the finger to the gangsters down there and I promise you he will learn the meaning of superstitious vs stupidity...

:boom:

When you travel abroad certain harmless signs are taken as great insult to them and their families too...so learn to know when to apply your knowledge ..:)

i still think this should be an internal school matter - if the school cant even handle a simple case like this it doesnt reflect well on the school

moreover its wasting valuable money and resources to go court for such a matter. it also promotes a "sue" society which is not healthy. if every case like this goes to court, the courts will be every day doing nothing but handle student verbal abuse cases

my big thumbs down to the school

Maybe this is a repeated offence?

I know quite a lot of cases that they do not learn their mistakes tru 'softway'. They must learn tru 'hardway'.

Anyway, offence is an offence. Under Civil Law, as long as the offence is punishable under Penal Code. Everybody can exercise their rights to pursue the matters.

Like I said this is a needless waste of resources and money and promoting a litigious society

Surely the school can do many things - from caning him, suspending him or if the need arises expelling him - is there a need to go to court?

Unless if there is explict evidence that the student is going WAY overboard for a certain period of time, it reeks of lawl abuse. Just what kind of values do we want to give thsoe kids ? To be pansies ?

And btw that teacher has to be very lucky not to get caught with the middle finger up :P. If he/she gets caught, will sure tio infinity counter combo.

School nowadays can't do much...

If School cane students. parents ask "why u abuse my child."
If School Ask to see parents, parent ask "fault is ur staff"
If teacher in a fit of angry throw things at students, raised her voice to scold..parents said, "your teach not professional enuff, hot temper, abusive, how to be example to students"

So i guess, this is a costly wake up call to these "students" that they are not "King" in schools

parents don't like to be called bad coz of guilt

I mean how many of parents in this forum alone will admit that they are bad or faulty in some way or other. So if their kid is an extension of their personality, than calling a their kid bad is a direct attack on the parent themselves.

the funny part about our school system is this;
to kick a kid out becoz he/she is underperforming is OK
but to kick a kid out becoz of discipline is NOT OK

hence its ok to call a kid stupid but not noti. Strange world we live in.

Arayden

Ironically the real problem are the parents themselves that makes mere school disciplinary matters difficult to resolve.

But let's see if the student has a explicit bad record of being unruly. If it is true, then GG.
