Thinking of getting an EX.. with aloto f continental features and seems like it is a good deal abt 63k

There is a few which i have shortlisted as well..they are toyota alantis and honda city.

Anyone own this car and how does that compare to the other 2?

What is the petrol consump on this ? I was told it is around 12/litre.

i'm sure everyone knows the cost of buying a car, so why not answer the man's question and not criticize his decision of buying a car instead?

The lancer ex 1.5 is about one of the more (*) cars around that you can buy. Its power is insufficient to give you a kick due to its massively heavy body. Nothing against the 2.0, but 1.5 generally is a look nice, slow ride. I am critical of the 12km/L rating because most users will probably tend to floor the (*)er in order to counter its power to weight ratio.

But then again, that is just my nonsense opinion, ignore me.

hehe thanks yaoyao. i agreed with u that after a test drive it might not have sufficient power compare to honda vtec i have drove but it is decent enough as I dont need fast pick up. What worry me is the braking system is not as good compare to the other cars i have drove. But i still got it because I like the design and it does not have major flaws :hat1:

Bro, examine the build quality.... From the early examples on the road that i see, its not good at all!

I've seen cheaper cars built to higher standards that the Lancer EX.
And the noise suppression on the Lancer is not good, you hear the road and wind more than other makes.

And the FC is rubbish, the 1.5L is not a drinker but it will never hit 12km/L unless you have a feather foot.

The City.... well, personally, i think its a failure in terms of looks, but the car runs quiet nicely....

I feel ashamed to say this, but i have never heard of the Toyota Alantis....

The panel gaps are horrible leh... Uneven in most places...
And the quality of the materials used is not worthy of a $60+k car.

FC-wise, well, Vios is good, but the looks and the drive of the Vios is kinda a personal thing

Finances Permitting, the Lancer EX is one of the roomier economy cars out there in the market. The 1.5 is severly underpowered, and if you are thinking of performance, it ain't your cup of tea. HOWEVER, if you are a rice boy, the EX is definitely way to go. With looks and a nice bod, you can't go wrong on the price.

And Patrick Tham, u are soooooo right!

I think cars, just like everything else is subjective. When choosing anything in life, we can't always rely on others without seeing for ourselves.

Ok, i admit i am an uncle... so maybe my view may not be the same as most of you. Many light years ago, i used to drive Civic ESi and RX7 because of the need for speed, but nowadays comfort and affordability is more important, so the Lancer EX 1.5 is honestly the most bang for my buck out of the 8 cars i've ever owned.

When I compare this car even against other conti cars (company cars) i've driven before like Volvo S60 and Audi A4, I can see that Mitsubishi has really put in effort for this car. The features it comes with, comfort level and driving experience is very continental. Some peeps commented on build quality, but i don't quite see any problems on my car. Some other EX owners have commented about disproportionate gap size between the hood and bumper at the front, but this was easily fixed when they returned to C&C for their first servicing.

At first when I heard about the EX and the 10k price diff with the older lancer, I was quite put off and was quite sure i'd end up with another car. But on persuasion of a friend, i went down to test drive both the 1.5 and 2.0 models. I have to say that the pedal shifters can seduce you when test driving the 2.0, but in the end i went with a 1.5 because i didn't get that much more out of the 2.0 (1.5 is using AT while 2.0 uses CVT which dampens the power output a bit).

I consider myself a moderate speedster, accelerating off from stop lights faster than most uncles at least and usually keeping to about 100km/h on highways. I once went from changi airport to tuas with little traffic clocking 18km/l on the on-board computer. I went to KL and back clocking 13.7km/l both ways travelling with 3 pax in the car at average 130km/h. Normal FC is between 12-12.5km/l.

If you are a youngster or still young at heart, then maybe the EX is not for you, especially if performance is important. But I can tell you that the greed for speed never ends, and sooner or later even a civic will not be enough.

Hi systemx, thanks for your valuable feedback. I just got the lancer EX 1.5 and here are some comment that it might trigger the interest for any future buyers.

Pro:
- continental features. basically u don't even bother to switch on your headlight and your wipers as they auto do it for you. u dont even need to use the key to start the engine
- compartment. chill compartment for your drinks as well
- audio. very good speakers and sound system
- very good leg room. my legs is very long and a big leg room for a car is a must for me
- spacious. passenger is comfortable even i pull my front seat to the max
- keyless operation and immobilizer. simple and easy to use. I seldom use my keys at all not even the remote buttom. all door will open if within 70cm range and boot is easily accessible with a push button
- 2.0 med size sedan car but paying at 1.5 car range
- can use a big size rim like 18' if you like big wheels

Cons:
- some says it is underpowered. but if u r talking abt speeding off when the traffic light turn green.. u might go ahead and get a speed car or higher hp with lighter body
- no foldable side mirrors (Strange to have so many contiental features but they choose to leave out this very basic one??)
- no auto wind up windows (strange for a cars with so many features but also left out the 2nd basic feature)
- steeling wheel is electronic. (but i prefer electronic than a hydralic one)
- 2 disc brake but i prefer 4 disc/drum brake.

Its the air intake / resonator box. The first few EX owners (for all variants) thought it had to do with the exhaust and modded it illegally only to find out that all they needed to do later was to remove 2 screws and take out the air intake hose and resonator box. Simple 2 min reversible op completely removed the sound.

Hi Nexus, agreed with all your points. Just a funny note... when I first collected my car, it was still quite new model so my SE smoked me about how to open the boot. She said that for the remote button, I had to put the remote right at the "sensor" at the back of the boot. That made absolutely no sense, and only later I realised that you could open the boot by pressing the boot button twice on the remote and the "sensor" she was talking about was actually a button to open the boot manually too! Haha... I felt so stupid for actually believing her.

The car is great. FC is about 11-12. But for the size and it weight, the handling is good during cornering and on the road.

Only thing I don't really is it is a 2 disc brake (I am used to driving car with 4 disc brake) and no foldering side mirror and it takes slightly harder to close the door and boot :) Other that, it is almost perfect for the price I paid for a 1.5k cc car

Your FC should improve after break in... mine did... or actually my acceleration improved some so I did not have to step so hard, so FC got better too.

Yah I agree that they should have given 4 disc brake... but I'm actually not too concerned by this... after all, there was a time when I used to drive cars with far worse brakes many years ago...haha

It isn't harder door closing by the way, rather that the doors are heavy just like volvo doors. Very solid, very safe feel. :thumb2:

Lancer EX 1.5 is acceptable for normal urban driving. The underpowered 'feature' of the EX 1.5 is more on long journeys with full load ( eg: NSHW with passengers ). Underpowered cars will see their FC suffer as the engine needs to work harder.
Otherwise, good buy.. Go join SLC. You'll see me in their meetups if you happen to live in the east side. ;)

the underpowered part of the car is more for city driving and especially up hills. Its cruising is really good even with full pax. Car drives really nicely with fc of 10(if u floor a lot like i do :P)-13km/l (still on mineral oil). Brakes seem fine to me, just a little spongy effect but it is effective! I quite like the sponge effect actually. Wind noise is pretty silent till 100km/h but once u get to 120km/h it gets pretty noisy. Wonder why the big diff.... but yea. FC savers go for the new honda jazz.

Hi, but I've already tried it on NSHW a few months back (before 5k) and did an average 130km/h both ways with FC at 13.5 and 13.7 up and down respectively. If that is not good FC i don't know what is. Also, I am quite sure its not underpowered as I could quite easily take it to 150-160 without much effort with 3 in the car. I attribute it to the MIVEC. Anyways, I'm already a member in LMC and SLC. :D
