Different types of caviar can come in black, for eg. sturgeon (the real caviar), lumpfish, salmon etc. I'm not sure if they colour it with something.
I like caviar but only what I can afford, I know you can buy black colour lumpfish caviar in 50gm containers for $7.x but at Mustafa or Carrefour (can't remember which), the same thing, same container, similar label colour but different words goes for less like about $5.40.
Cheap stuff, the others are so ex!

grab some sturgeons, slice their stomach, slot ur hand in and u can scoop out a handful of caviar. ALL FREE.
anyway i have yet to try caviar unless u tell me that the ROE on the sushi is similar to caviar. Practically tasteless.

Overfishing has made sturgeon very rare. And it'll have to be a pregnant female sturgeon.
As for roe, the ikura (salmon roe, the bigger round globes) are not tasteless at all. The Ebikko (shrimp roe, the small orange dots) is not tasteless either but the taste is a lot more subtle.
