THREE months after they met in 2002, they became lovers.

He's a Singaporean sales executive with two grown children.

She's a China national married to a Singaporean.

She soon tired of his possessive ways and tried to end their affair, but he enticed her back by lavishing her with gifts.

The first time she tried to leave him, Mr Oon Guan Hoo, 50, bought Madam Xia Hong, 35, a condominium unit in China.

On later occasions, he promised to give her $120,000 in cash and a supplementary credit card.

When Madam Xia finally decided to call it quits for good, Mr Oon became frustrated and began harassing her.

On 6 Dec 2005, he banged on her door with a bamboo pole around 9am when she refused to answer his calls.

For that, she sued him for harassment in a private summons.

That morning, Mr Oon had gone to Madam Xia's flat in Serangoon North and behaved in a "threatening" manner.

After a trial in September, District Judge Shobha Nair found Mr Oon guilty and fined him $2,000.

The court heard that Madam Hong, a hairstylist, met Mr Oon in October 2001 through a friend.

As their friendship developed, she began confiding in him about her marital problems.

Three months later, in January 2002, they became lovers.

The court papers detailed that the couple had sex in various places around Singapore, including his car and at a club in Yishun.

JEALOUS AND POSSESSIVE

But Madam Xia became tired of Mr Oon's possessive behaviour.

He checked her SMSes, would not allow her to have friends and got jealous when she spent time with her own husband, she said.

After less than a year, she decided to end their relationship. But Mr Oon won her back by giving a condominium unit in Yunnan, China.

Around October 2004, when her husband found out about the affair, she tried to end their relationship again. While they were arguing, Mr Oon held on to Madam Xia's handbag and got into his car.

She tried to get the handbag from the passenger side, but he pushed her away and tried to drive off before she could get in.

He also punched and bruised her hand and shoulder.

Her husband, who found out about the harassment, met Mr Oon and apparently paid him $7,000 on 10 Oct to stop him from disturbing his wife.

Part of the agreement was that Mr Oon would stop calling Madam Xia's ill mother in China to talk about the liaison.

The couple also agreed to sell off the China condo and return the proceeds to Mr Oon, who agreed to stop trying to resume the relationship.

But despite that, the lovers re-connected a few months later.

Her husband was kept in the dark about the renewed affair.

About a year later, the relationship again deteriorated and Madam Xia refused to answer his calls.

On 6 Dec, Mr Oon called her, saying he wanted to talk about their relationship. She refused to meet him.

He called her a few more times, and she ignored them.

Soon after that, she heard a loud knocking on her door. Mr Oon called out her name repeatedly.

When she ignored him, he picked up a bamboo pole which was lying outside the unit and banged on the front door.
