I recommend Fuenti for Italian! It's at UE Square, River Valley Road. Excellent service, the general manager is new, been there a few months, Salvatore Catalano, nice friendly guy. Food is fine and yummy but not as expensive as Michelangelos. Beautiful ambience, very nice soothing look for a romantic dinner too, the surroundings are rather quiet though. Tiramisu, which is our standard fare as I explained to Salvatore, you order the same thing so you can compare, the tiramisu is very good. At first I thought it was just a tad too dry but I realised most places oversoak the lady fingers hence they're too soggy. The texture of the cake was very good, rich with marscapone, nice finish to the meal.
First trip, I had the risotto which was shockingly green ($28) - spinach. My dad had the carving from the wagon (very juicy and very tasty), mom had the spaghetti marinara (big serving, full of seafood). I had the foie gras with portobello mushroom for a starter, was divine. Whopping $22 but the portobello definitely had something extra in it, not my usual homemade ones although i love those also. The fois gras had a light crisp layer and the inside was still warm and with a melting texture.
My mom really liked the soup, very muchlike a thicker version of Zuppa di Mare from Pasta Fresca before their standard went dooowwn.
Have since gone back again a few times. They also do special orders. The squid ink pasta is very very tasty (wipe your lips!!), they added fresh large prawns that just came in that morning for me. About $22 for the usual, 33 or 35 with the fresh large prawns. My mom had risotto with seafood this time, it's not on the menu but again they voluntarily and happily did it. I had foie gras again of course, although have to stop eating foie gras for awhile, apparently it's so sinful it should be eaten only once in a loooong while.. :confused2 I've had it like 4 times in about 2 months *guilt*
Manager bakes the bread himself in the afternoon so it's very homey bread, olive oil is really good quality but I much much prefer lots of balsamic vinegar with just a few drops of olive oil although everywhere else seems to serve it the other way around!
