If you have forgotten, do you know how to tell which side the petrol tank inlet is when you are in the car?

An ergonomic car will have it on the side most convenient for the driver.
Most cars are not ergonomically designed or the designers simply ignored it so the problem of which side arises....

Check your fuel gauge, there will be a small triangle pointing to the side where the petrol tank inlet is. Check it out!!!

I have never come across a digital fuel gauge before, but the tank sign should have a triangle as well.

Trick question. Most cars with 1 exhaust pipe will have their petrol inlet on the opposite side of the exhaust pipe. It is a safety issue that if petrol leaked from the hose joining the inlet pipe to tank broke, petrol will not spill onto the hot exhaust pipe causing a fire.
Check out those cars with 1 exhaust pipe, the filler cap is on the opposite side.
For dual pipe cars, I don't know. Maybe they(manufacturers) want to burn your car.
As for the centre exhaust pipe, I don't know. Before all these fashion statement dual pipes and centre pipes, the only way to know is that the filler cap is on the opposite side.
