hi guys,
got a small problem.. well actually a big one..
currently doing my ns.. got posted to a place in cck.. the place near qian hu...
and problem is i'm staying in tampines. i got posted there cause i went for the vocation interview. i went for the interview, because NCOs during camp gave me the impression that i will be working with cadets from sec level. but i got posted there to do paper work...
everyday wake up 515am and everyday reach home by 8.30pm.. i went for the interview, so that's why i thought i should tahan 2-3 weeks. i cannot take it already. really no life.. reach home only.. shower and fall asleep. or else cannot get up the next day..
i talked to my captain. but he seems reluctant to do anything about my case. say.. its part of life. i have to just deal with it.
how? i'm thinking my next course of action is talk to my direct superiors. but how to start a conversation that is both effective and direct to the point. i tend to beat about the bush..
any advice?

u already got a much better life compared to many other nsfs why are u still complaining? later u get posted to gedong i think that one can go hang yourself from ceiling fan.
posting someone out involves alot of admin work. must write in to cpc and then wait for a suitable allocation for u. unless your surname is LEE they probably wont care much about u also. however, u can force them to post u out by playing punk. just simply give them back lousy work and attitude, not fogetting take alot of MC.. they sure post u out sooner or later. but then again its another roll of the dice on where u gonna go..
my advice is since your ns life is already good compared to other chiong sua units, be thankful u got a desk job. quickily finish the remaining years and dont cause any trouble.

i was in the same situation as you, but you must know the difference between rights and privileges. if you cannot take it, just choose to stay in. stay out is a privilege that not many NSFs has. unless you have a special condition that might prevent you from staying in (like serious eczema with dust allergy or economy syndrome), I guess you have no choice but to live with it.

I don't know how it works in SAF but in my organisation (in Ministry of Home Affairs, I'm also in NS), we just speak to our Manpower Dept. Its not a problem, transferring with a valid reason for NSF. For Regulars, they transfer every 3 to 4 years.
I think I know where you're at. I'm also at CCK *hint hint* there are only 2 Ministry of Home Affairs establishments there haha. I live in Eunos. Not as far as you but comparable. I chose to go to this unit though. I went for a selection interview with the dept then decided this is where I wanted to be. I dont really mind the travelling distance, I usually read on the way
Its up to you definitely. I'm sure you can try asking for a transfer.

my unit had a stay out personnel who complained of the distance between camp and home and said the long travelling time made him report to camp late.
the ultimatum given to him was, either he report on time or he stay in.
moral of the story is similar to what others have already said.
staying out is a heaven high privilege. most ppl fight for it also cannot. there are some with even worse family situations who cant get stay out privileges as well.
at least u get to go back to a bed u are familiar with. most dont get to.
You want to ask for post out ? can. dont cry if they post you to do to guard duties at jurong island or tengah airbase or take away your stay out privileges.

let me ask u guys, DO U GUYS travel like him BEFORE? as in daily back and fro between camp and home.
dun say STAY OUT is much better bah bah bah. is thing is so much time is wasted jus on travelling. no not that i wan to flame, but im here to help him, not add salt to say him bah bah hes lucky or wadever. guard duties in JI? llst lo
dude, i i'm sama sama as u, except im much better, tanah merah -> clementi camp DAILY. so sometimes i chose to stay in if im lazy to go home. i doubt u actually can post out, instead see they can let u stay in ornot. most likely can la, i clerk also stay in sometimes lol.
dun be afraid, they highly likely to let u stay in because if much less paperwork compared to post out to other camp..
good luck :)

I have stayed in camp and out of camp in my nsf. 1 year stay in camp with the next year stay out.
My camp in Yee Tee and I stay Pasir Ris, freaking heck wake up 5am everyday to go to camp. But I can tell you no matter what, staying out is much better then staying in anyday.
I thank God everyday when my CO told my camp so sorry Army no budget to provide you dinner so must stay out. Interestingly it was the same time the airforce and navy bought some billion dollars worth of new planes and boats to add to the defence of SG :D

For me stay In no "proper" computer, no internet, it is like hell. Cannot take internet withdrawal syndrome.
MY NSF consisted of all day only look at criminal records and go disturb other camps to disturb other NSF. I was an MP

as most of the other guys have already made it clear
Stay out is a priviledge. If the distance is far, either you leave early, or you stay in. simple. or break a leg, break a finger, go on MC for all you care.
not happy? bring it up to your immediate superior. not satisfied? bring it up to ur superior's superior. lagi not satisfied? bring up to CPC. by the time CPC replies you, you might be waiting for ORD already.
i was one of the last batch to give 2.5 years. was allowed stay-out, but chose instead to stay-in. Why? commute to-fro camp takes 1hr 30mins. thats just to the main road. another 25minutes to walk in from main road to guard house to unit premises. got myself a bunk on level 5, top floor of a building that was standing since ww2. yes, it sucks. but looking around, do you have a right to complain? alot of people are getting much worse.
sure, you can complain all you want. but is it warranted? if you had expected us to mollycoddle you and fuss over you saying "ooooh poor thing" and all that stuff, u're dead wrong.
NS is not a holiday camp. deal with it.
is your situation better or worse? i simply dont care. why not? because we know we are not the decision makers.

can stay out is good enough.
Ur vocation is much better than many ppl seriously. I chiong sia 1 wan to take ur position also cannot.

Ok.
Firstly if everyone requests for a post out each camp would be like some guys workplace for a week and another changeover of personnel. This is what you don't want. That's why CPC doesn't entertain such transfers.
Secondly, it's your choice to get into this vocation. That's good enough already, many, actually i'd say 95% of NSFs don't get the vocation they desire. You thought that this vocation would help you deal with cadets, you didn't actually confirm it, so this whole situation was create by yourself.
Thirdly stay out? When you work next time it's gonna be worse. Then if you bunk in with HQ there are lights out timings to adhere to, compulsory breakfasts, waking up at the latest 0615. I even seen if you were from a battalion, the hq coy will get turnout once in a while.
I'm not reprimanding you or what, but informing you about all the problems. I myself face some guys with this problem but it's really hard for me to send up a request for a post out esp when you just posted it. I hope that when you ask for such stuff you do know what you are getting into, and what you are getting your superiors into as well. It isn't something like tell cpc i want this guy to post out, but lots of paperwork to do. Perhaps your position might be left empty for a while and who is going to help you do your work?
Trust me, there are much worse postitions out there.

NS leh uncle...u think ya father's army?
seriously, if you dont have bike or car, no sensible human will want to stay out and travel cck to tampines lor....
really donno why NSF like to stay out....a few hundred dollars allowance and you are spending at least half of that on transport every month....aint it silly?

Ok shall not blast you but here are alternatives:
1. Request for transfer to somewhere nearer. Of course consider what PES u at now.. if C likely u will go become clerk some where else. Stay in or out, see luck
2. Request for a bunk in camp. Then you have choice of going home or staying in. In camp i-net terminals not so bad dah. Can go out jalan jalan, 10+ go back to bunk bath and sleep. Handphone got 3g even better still can MSN.
3. Stay over at fren/gf place near ur camp lor.

stay in lor... free food and lodging...
bring xbox or ps2 in and play :P
enjoy the life staying in man!
although my old camp is near my house... i still sometimes choose to stay in... waste $$ taking bus back and forth... and dun need wake up so early the next day (30mins before fall in can le)
and also booking in at night easier to smuggle "things" in then in the morning.. haha :D

haha, you should count your lucky stars that you get to stay out alraedy. im forced to stay in though im a clerk in a formation hq. and tho my camp is not exactly accessible (aka sungei gedong) and i barely get to book out before 9pm (with some luck 8+ is considered early) and considering that i have to book in before 730. I still feel its much better staying out than in. (they recently just implemented the stay in thing). so either way, count your lucky stars that you have a CHOICE to stay in (if its too far, just stay in lor. if i end work at 10-11pm, ill stay in too. that happens most of the time anyway). So please, just thank god you are in a place that lets you stay out
