listen folks, a few comments on logistics...
dinner is fine, but be mindful of the last ferry service back to SG. so, if we want to have dinner, we cant have a leisurely dinner if we need to catch the last ferry home.
i think a leisurely lunch would be better, bcos then we dun have to worry about catching any last ferry.
so tiffany, are u ok with lunch or not?
as far as i could recall, the return ferry ticket is about S$29. upon arrival, we would still need to take cabs from the jetty terminal to the restaurant. so cab fare is another expense item.
as we are nearer to the date, i will go to harbour front to find out about ferry schedules and fares.
i will also try to find out about taxi services at batam end.
maybe later we need to set a deadline for people to indicate interest.

Ferry schedule & prices:

I cannot confirm so soon but am interested so tentative like floppy. Might have to cancel my regular sat pm appt. I have not been to batam before but been wanting to go, cheap massages! hee hee
Which place you guys thinking of going, waterfront, nongsapura or batam centre, not sure which is nearest to nagoya if you intend to go to town (which by the sound of polo ralph, you are).
Any idea of which seafood restaurant?
Some website info: http://www.bataminfo.com/welcome.htm
Can buy DFS on the way back or not?

dun think we have time to go anywhere near nagoya. it would be strictly a makan trip. no shopping. of course, people after makan can split and make their way to wherever they want to go.
the restaurants should be those that are near the two jetties on the island. not decided yet.
still need concensus on whether we do do LUNCH or DINNER.
quarian, i havent checked the ferry schedule, but what is the last ferry on a saturday?
thnks.

Batam Centre is 10:15pm, Nongsapura is 10:30pm. Cannot find schedule for Waterfront City although it's a popular destination and the fare is listed.
There's a seafood recommended at Batu Besar near waterfront city on the other website I mentioned above.
JT2046, great, you must be a pro, please recommend seafood near the ferries?

if you're going for the day...suggest you drop by the Batam Cable Ski Park...have some fun in the sun.
www.cable-ski.com
logistics wise....
you need atleast 6months on your passports...meaning it doesn't expire in the next 6 months.
the ferry is a 50min ride, and its $26 Sing.
beer, smokes, and basically everything is cheaper there...suggest you go for a rub, its about $15 - $18 for 1hour.

OK guys, let me chip in some info.
Take the Ferry from TMFT to Nongsapura ( better route ), include all taxes ferry tickets is SGD31 each. Ferry ride takes about 35-40mins.
Seafood wise, Kelong at Batam View Beach Resort or Seafood Rezeki at Batu Besar, Nongsa. Meal+transport will cost abt SGD20 per person.
Exchange rates in the island is pretty standard, never change for the past 3 month - S$1 is Rp5700.
Area that I can help - Getting the ferry tickets, transfer to seafood when in Batam and doing reservation for our meal. If anyone need accommodation, I can help too, decent Resort ( not those Hotel in Batam Centre )---> ard S$90 per room per night with breakfast.
Hope this help.

July 24th, 2005, 09:29 PM
The dinner wouldn't cost you that much, there's other area beside Batam View for seafood. The usual price I pay for my seafood dinner at my usual joint is about ( 5 person ) SGD90 total bill, include - rice, Black pepper crab, steam prawns, fish, Sambal Kang Kong, scallops, drinks etc etc
