Got a question about braking to ask.. :o
When there is a need to e-brake, do you slap the gear shifter to 2 from D as you slam the brakes, or just brake in D? I do know that you need to have a firm grip on the steering wheel though.

You'll kill your tranny!!!!!!!
If your car comes equipped with ABS/Traction Control/yada yada yada... then just step on the brake pedal hard. If your car doesn't have all the new tech shite above, you need to attenuate your braking - step hard at first, then when you feel the car is gonna skid/lose traction, release the brakes abit and step again (repeat until you come to a complete stop)...

I see... Was just wondering.. Cos once you whack on the brakes you should be going below 90km/h liao, which is usually the max for the '2' in most Jap family auto cars.. :o
I noticed the initial braking in an auto car a bit like braking in N gear in a manual car.. Speed doesn't drop so fast..

auto car brakes are not as 'bitey' as manual cars if they are stock... can tune the brakes to be more responsive, but then again... if it's a normal daily transport, no point lah... the ride will become very jerky.

brake until like close to lose control then let go and until you feel it's stable step brake again.

Heh brakepads cheaper to replace than tranny. Btw... is it safe to use engine brake if your auto transmission supports "psuedo manual"?

NO!... kills the tranny... there's NO SUCH thing as engine braking for auto, even for semi-auto trannies... The only exception is a racing sequential tranny... but it's not available for most production cars.

auto can do engine brake if know the technique..
in auto transmission:
D with O/D on its mean gear (1), (2), (3) and (4)..
D with O/D off its mean gear (1), (2), and (3)..
2 mean gear (1) and (2)..
L mean gear (1)
if in D highest gear position (4), just swith off the overdrive it will help you to do engine brake and shift to lower gear (3).. then can change to (2) or even L...
in steptronic (+) and (-)
same like auto transmission, in steptronic you dont have to switch off the O/D anymore... just move it to (-) if you want to do engine brake..
but remember, to do this must see the engine rpm, eg: if the max rpm in your car is 8000rpm then you can swith to lower gear if your rpm already reach 4000rpm or even lower.. why?? because when you switch to lower gear, the rpm will automatically increase.. so its a NO NO if the rpm more than half of max rpm or the engine will blow, in this sample case 4000 rpm.. every car got different spec for the transmission and every engine got different power..
do check your car spec 1st..
if you crazy enough, you can sprint your wheels.. burn the tyre rubber like in manual gearbox:hat1:
