need to really work out how much all the other expenses other than monthly instalment because very easy to over-commit. went to see cars the other day coz now like very good time to buy lor. started modestly by looking at Hyundai Getz coz cheap cheap. Quite nice, quite like. Much better than Kia :D Then saw Toyota Vios. Slightly more ex, Not so nice, dun really like sedan, but more value for money coz price drop more than Getz, has reliability of toyota etc. Then finally happened to walk past a parallel import Toyota IST and fell in love http://forum.istclub.com/images/smiles/loveluv.gif but quite jialat lor - from Getz budget of $43k, upgrade to Vios $46k until IST need about $55k! I'm hoping for something that's in the range of at least 15km/l lor. toyota IST apparently can stretch to 15-18km/l if drive properly. But that's stock without body kit and original smaller wheels I think. The insurance quite scary man! meet with just one accident then no claim bonus gone liao means so much difference :rolleyes2

bro.... my estimates are correct lah...
my estimates are over ones.... to cater for small fines and maintenance as well. unless you get into an accident or someone gets into an accident with you :D

My advice is to get a Toyota.. Altis...unless you like those with no "backside" ones... The last thing you want is a bad engine. Toyota's engine is well known to last. Hyundai..... infact all korean cars are not that great. The Matrix is the worst i heard... the fuel consumption is really bad.

The Misubishi Lancer is also good to note... @ $54k it is not a bad buy......but Mitsubishi engine so so nia...only their EVO engine is really good.

Cars that I would consider..(but i do not know price of them)
- Toyota ALTIS
- Honda CIVIC
- Toyota WISH (Parallel import ONLY... best fuel consumption)

Cars that I will not buy
- Most Korean Cars...
- Subaru Impreza.... Super Heavy... Super underpowered (not talking about the WRX)

bro.... my estimates are correct lah...
my estimates are over ones.... to cater for small fines and maintenance as well. unless you get into an accident or someone gets into an accident with you :Dheheh never say your estimates wrong leh. but hor, the estimates are including loan instalments or excluding?? If excluding then I dun think I can afford to get a car lor!

My advice is to get a Toyota.. Altis...unless you like those with no "backside" ones... eh ya I DO like the no backside type :D that's why looking at Hyundai Getz, Toyota IST, Honda Fit etc. Even the Vios has a smaller backside than other sedans heh

The last thing you want is a bad engine. Toyota's engine is well known to last. Hyundai..... infact all korean cars are not that great. The Matrix is the worst i heard... the fuel consumption is really bad.yeah I heard bad things about Matrix fuel consumption too. even hyundai agents also say so. but most people say the Getz is acceptable lor - should get about 13km/l apparently. Still not as good as many jap cars though.

Cars that I would consider..(but i do not know price of them)
- Toyota ALTIS
- Honda CIVIC
- Toyota WISH (Parallel import ONLY... best fuel consumption)LOL bro you got expensive taste sia! all your models all one notch above what I am considering e.g. Corolla Altis is bigger brother to Vios, Wish is sort of longer and bigger version of IST (IST still nicer IMHO) :)

Cars that I will not buy
- Most Korean Cars...ya I also think along the same line that's why won't even consider a Kia Picanto. it's really dirt cheap but not sure it's much better than cheap dirt :alien3: Hyundai Matrix and Verna also won't consider lor. But the Hyundai Getz really did get some good reviews and so far most people I asked say that it seems comparable to jap cars in the same bracket leh. If it's true, I might opt for it over the IST coz price difference is a good 10K

guys, any idea for 2nd hand cars? thinking of looking ard ah...wat sort of idea you want?? as in lobang? calculations? or wat? From what I know, new car prices are now so attractive that secondhand cars are not as worth it as before. Previously, it's very worthwhile to buy cars that are 1 or 2 yrs old coz that's when the largest depreciation has already happened. But car prices 1 - 2 yrs ago were SO much higher than they are now that even taking into account huge depreciation, many of these second hand cars are at best about the same price of a new car now. But anyway, I'm a total car noob as I said before so not too sure lah :D

I also no money to buy car.. but if you think about it and you are going into IT anyway... mind as well get a slightly better one.. selling it away also easier....

ya I also think along the same line that's why won't even consider a Kia Picanto. it's really dirt cheap but not sure it's much better than cheap dirt :alien3: Hyundai Matrix and Verna also won't consider lor. ok get a Hyundai.....but don't say i never tell you... later no girl wanna hop onto your car don't blames me........ hahahahahahahahahaa:happy:

I am also looking it get a car but my budget just do not allow it...actually getting a S$55k-ish car is quite affordable these days and the range of cars you get is also very good.

My PICK for you.... Suzuki swift..

well 2nd hand car market dies long time ago..
but all those 2nd hand card now have a small advantage... OMV...
so you do get a bigger amount when you have your card scrapped after 10 years. And if you do it before you can get back some COE also...(Pro rated)

I sense 2nd hand car coming back...

hmm well dun get hyundai unless u really want a car but cannot pay the monthly instal... but then hor u muz also consider ur driving distance and the fuel consumption...
i would say if u want to buy a car it is considered quite okie with the loan but then to 'Yang' a car it is tough cos there is alot of hidden costs...

for eg, u suay suay tio accident then have to fork out for repairs or compensation then a sum of money gone then u sian 1/2 no money go out then the whole month instal = waste... haha
