Wah so non car owner cannot say har :sad4: :sad2:
Though i'll still say! HA! XD :laugh3: IMO depending on other expenses such as house, bills etc. Should be at least 2600-3000..a decent car takes up about 800-1000 a month..leaving you with about 1600 for other stuff..i wun put in a vote though since kids without cars cant vote :sad6: :(

i believe 2600-3000 shd be sufficient for a small sedan car not > 52K and most important of all, u must not have any liability on u like houses, kids, wife etc. If u have the liabilities then i suggest > 3.5K

i did all my calculation base on the highest consumption :D and will always set aside the calculated amount including monthly saving for car insurance and carpark+ERP+road tax. Like dat when insurance and road tax come wont feel the pinch hehe. Its always good to have a safe financial planning rather den panic at the last minute when insurance+road tax all come in the same time.

I think most cars would require around $1000 per mth, so just subtract from there. As other posters have said, it depends on what are your other expenditures, like housing loan, family(children, wife, parents), savings, etc...
But please do consider your finances properly before you decide to buy a car, cause it is a big ticket item that may prove a big drag(since the car would only lose $$ for you, unlike say housing which may appreciate) to your finances if you miscalculate and do not give enough room for your finances. (like unforseen shocks to your job/medical care for loved ones).

As a general rule of thumb, my car costs (installments, petrol, tax, insurance and others) must NOT exceed 28% of my nett income per month.
In fact, 28-ish% is already generous given that i am not married or have elderly parents to look after.
So that figure will decrease as time goes by...
But to me, that is a comfortable ballpark sum to set aside for a car...
