Go for test centre with less traffic, Ang Mo Kio or Bukit Batok, it is easier to drive.

Private Instructor is cheaper and you could control the number of lesson, but they don't teach well.

must have some lesson before u can really go for test even if u are a revoked driver u also need to attend lesson. if they found out that u never attend any then go for test, even pass also will not be valid.

juz to share my bad experience with one bad instructor too, promised me lots of things but didn't even do it. Actually one of best rated Instructors on the internet...but what he does is actually assigned you to other instructors. I got assigned to a instructor who can only speak slurring chinese and hokkien. I dont even understand what he's talking half the time.

Driving instructor
Soh
HP: xxxxxxxx
NRIC S1234567Z
make him your instructor at your own risk,

The instructor that i was assigned to:
Poh
HP: xxxx xxxx
speaks slurring chinese
bad attitude
doesn't even wear shoes when teaching
put his legs on the car seat
imagine the standard provided by Soh
Mitsibush car SGExxxxJ - but i think he changed car coz of complaints
when ask him about making advance appts, say will let u know again, then how the hell am I going to arrange my schedule? wait for them? bunch of lousy instructors

And they will try to make u take more lessons , so that they can improve the passing rate of Soh (which is available on the Internet)

lucky, i have since changed to a much better instructor...if I can make an official complaint of this, pls let me know the contacts. thanks

You need to complete a series of test in the circuit (Parking, E-brake etc etc) and thus it will be mandatory for your instructor to use the circuit at a later period of your driving lessons. I'll be having mine towards the end of my lessons though, so that I'll be able to familiarize myself with the circuit before the test.

My private instructor made me do parkings in industrial car parks (for lorries) and later on, in public car parks (which is illegal btw but his license is on the line, not yours). We did that practically every lesson revising reverse, parallel and direction change techniques.

By the time, I entered circuit, all I needed to do was familiarize with layout, the "markings" of your test arena (i.e. which colored stone to stop and turn, etc). Of course, crank course, s course and slope (manual) or kerb mount/brake (auto). One very important aspect of circuit training is the road markings. You will NEVER encounter so many different road markings in such a small area out in the real world so navigating inside the circuit will be a challenge to your turning skills and reaction.

All in all I had about 18 lessons with my instructor, 4 of which is spent in circuits (1 hour each). I passed at the first go and my parkings were all very well done. Also, I picked a timeslot for my practical when it is lunch time at the school so the circuit was free and only had the test takers. This reduces stress I think.

I had to change instructor when I went circuit as my original instructor do not have membership with BBDC. The new guy was critical of whatever I was doing and I told him off as it was near my test date and he was ruining my confidence as my original instructor never found my techniques to be wrong.

If you want, you can complain to the driving school he belongs to. Posting his personal particulars out in the open is... not right.

Actually I know of many private takers who had passed on first try. But it all depends to how much you can grasp or "click" with your instructor. Private instructors teach by experience and if you can't understand what's he saying or where he's going with his ramblings, you can't pick up much from him. If you cannot click with your instructor, should change asap.

I took over 15 lessons from school about 4 years before I passed but did not take test as I was posted overseas suddenly. My experience is that in school, they teach you everything by the book. You won't miss a thing but you won't gain extra either. My private instructor taught me alot more defensive driving techniques for the road than the school instructor did.

During test, it is important to show "respect" to the tester. I hear somewhere that they are all retired TP so calling them "sir" will give them a better impression of you. Also, the usual stuff, they say left turn, you respond "yes sir" in acknowledgement - let them know you understand them so they don't second guess you during your execution of the maneuvre. Also, don't dress like you are going for a race after the test. Dress sensibly and even boringly. I mean if I am a tester and you come in with your Need for Speed jumper and tonnes of bling-bling, I am going to have doubts beyond your ability to drive.

Lastly, I recall one guy during my pre-TP briefing who had just returned from test taking. He was arguing with the tester on the points deducted during his test and his attitude was quite bad. I was told these people are usually "marked" although I am not sure how true is that.

$28 per hour
15 lessons of 2 hours = 30 hours
4 circuits hours at $38 (approximately)

(28*30) + (4*38) = $840 + $152 + $218 (test warmup, rental and circuit)

= $1210

some school instructors teach you different methods or tells you differently...
therefore its always good to be kiasu to ask and confirm with the many instructors you have than to just nod your head with what the instructors tells you and follow the 1st one ...

the only con i have in taking school was although many a times you will be seeing familiar faces, sometimes you will meet new instructors... thus, if you have the good instructors you will enjoy if not good luck to you

good instructors tells you about road condition, what to take note off, how to judge vehicle speed, traffic condition... timing of traffic lights around the area and where are the critical spots to take note ... as well as speed limit so they do tell you outside the area they are suppose to teach and for your info... some instructors do miss out what they are supposed to teach as well lol....

testers are not all retired tp they come from the government sector... could be a cid or police or watsoever

i pass 1st time in bbdc 16 pts...my test route was the most difficult one involve going to teck whye and up the slope where u need to pull handbrake and getting the biting point shit..

but somehow i got lucky the instructor ask me to turn the U-turn at the LRT station and right back to BBDC.
so in all my test route consist of a left turn out of bbdc, a right turn followed by a U-turn and a Right turn back to BBDC..

i was 1st to drive out of BBDC and the 1st to get back in BBDC, all my 16 pts are from outside the
circuit.

PS: tester look at the overall of ur performance, to pass he must feel that u can control the car in a safe manner and u are able to take safety precautions.

lol...i register in jan, complete my BTT FTT before feb, chiong all lesson and finish all the lesson before May while my TP was in july 28. then by jun engage a private instructor to use his car for training only. total spend $2200
2K in BBDC $200 for private instructor.

moral of the story: dun chiong like me. unless u got one month holiday.
