Ok, have got the Odyssey comnig to 2 weeks now, and seriously speaking, I have absolutely no complains about the car.
But then.. the blardy IU is so damn far from the driver seat, I pulled my back when I was trying to reach it to take out the cash card!
biang eh...

the distance from the steering to the cash card is very car... yes, the steep slop down is the cause, but wah biang eh... fix the IU closer leh...
I am thinking of getting some extention handle with foreceps in the front so that I wun have to "bend over"....

aiya... get 2 cash card, bo hua lah. You are basically putting your money with NETS first. Yes, you see the figures, and you can use it anytime, but NETS take that money from you first, put in their bank, can earn alot of interest leh...
never like to let GLC earn a dime of my money... haha:beer2:

cannot... LTA has given the auto-dealers the EXACT position to place the IUs... and they will not change it just becos you ask...
I do agree that it is such a stupid thing tho'... when I was in Japan, I spoke to a local and found out that they use the same technology (imported it from SG!!!), but instead of external IUs, they have it installed into their dash (ie centre consol) with a wire and antenna located in the middle-top of the dash, just next to the windscreen!!!! Freaking hell, that's just so nicely thought out... they only need to reach the centre consol to access the "cashcard"!!!!!
Blardi singapore!!!! can't they just do that too!!!! :angry3:

I was thinking of modding it for some time.
Get an extra/spare IU, disconnect the current one, and run a wire up as antenna. Hide the real IU and you can slot in a cash card with $200 and just drive whereever you want for quite some time without needing to top up or remove it at all.Thieves would think that you have no cash card.
Singapore designers are really....not thoughtful!

do that and you will be fined - IUs are tagged, ie the serial no is tied to your vehicle... cannot anyhow 'get' another one to use. And if you open it up, you have just committed an offense as the IU does NOT belong to you! (then again, what does REALLY belong to you in singapore? :P)
and furthermore, in singapore, the contract goes to the lowest bidder wor... bad design? Nah, more like NO design!!!!

Don't you buy the IU? I remember it was like one hundred over dollars.
How would they know it if you pluck out your current one and put in a fake one? ;)

What crap sia. You buy the car under your name. You have the rights to the seats, gear, steering wheel etc. everything belongs to your name except for the IU. Property of Singapore Government.
What kind of logic? Its like i buy a handphone and i change the battery to my own kind but still can use and is not allowed as the handphone belong to me, correct. But the battery doesn't belong to me.
Really don't understand what is the sg government thinking... And i think changing the IU in all cars to the japan standard will be too expensive and ppl will make a lot of noise as they have to go down and change etc. Like one election they come back and start complaining to forums already. If this is implemented in Singapore, they will sure complain even more. "I am now paying so much for the petrol of my car and now u ask me to pay somemore to change the IU which is not necessary? I like that go malaysia buy proton better!"

eh, little boy... think a little bit more hor... if the car really belongs to you, why would you have to pay for the usage, ie COE that lasts only 10 years (after that, you need to renew, should you want to continue using the car)!
And if it is REALLY yours, how come you cannot change certain parts? It's your's what, you should be allowed to do any and everything to it, right?! And 'go malaysia buy proton'!?!?!?! Wtf... we're talking about singapore here lor... why bring in our northerly neighbours? And if you are a citizen or even a PR here in singapore, you are NOT allowed to drive a malaysian registered vehicle in singapore... NOT EXCEPTIONS. Now, do you still wanna buy a proton in malaysia to do what you will with, and ONLY use it in malaysia while you spend most of your life here?!?!?
Your analogy of the mobile phone doesn't make any sense either. While I do appreciate that you try to contribute and post your opinions, please step back and think about what you are about to post before clicking on the post button...

Hmm, so technically it's possible for the govt to track your parking habits and driving habits? Hmm.

ok this is a random idea i had. just asking out of curiosity, not purposely to incite disobedience or whatever you want to call it.
how does the IU operate? radio signals?
isit possible to put a fake IU on top and the real one below like some guy mentioned above, but block the signals from the real IU when u pass thru ERP gantry? then got vicom check put the IU back lor :D
and just a note - if i don't reappear in the forums within a week, please assume i have been paid a visit by some ISD people, so delete this thread ^^

i meant plastic model... cos if can somehow block the IU signals then no need to pay ERP. but im curious as to how the IU works. the only power source i can see is the small wire leading to it... does it mean u attach a switch there then can switch the whole unit off? or is it some newfangled thingy that receives power from the gantry? :S

tok kok lah... even if you managed to somehow turn your IU off, when you pass thru the ERP gantry, it will register that your IU is not working and you will be caught on candid camera... a few days later, you will get a nice invitation to visit your nearest IU inspection centre!
there is a weight sensitive pressure plate beneath the ERP gantry, and the sensors + camera all working 'seemlessly' to ensure you PAY (it's only whether you pay there and then or later with an 'administration' charge)... you will NOT win one lah!

i think thats quite a common problem among the MPVs.. even some hatchbacks..
remember my fren's Mitsubishi Colt, the new one, not the old one nor the Colt Plus, the IU is quite far infront..
