Quite a familiar name for all of us here! but here it is for those who dunno. these are my views and opinions of Dr Harry's Recycled Paper bedding/ cat litter. for those who dunno this is a pic:

Dad and Dr Harry's bedding Sample :)

it goes for $5.90 for 10l at Pets Station and is also sold at places like Pets Nursery in marina sq. There is a current promo from pets station tiong bahru plaza for 2x10l packs @ 9.90 which is the price of the 20l pack they do not carry anymore.

light n easy is the name and well. 2 packs is light for awhile then it gets heavy :D made of old phonebooks. many of us know it for its ability to hold and absorb smell. dust free setting and long lasting bedding.

so i would be reviewing from my 2 containers of tanks. one toyogo container with 4 females. yea they pee more :D. and one habitrail safari with add on and 3 male hammies. yea my hamms basically.

I would grade comparing with Wood Shavings from Woody Pets and Delikate.

1) Smell - I find Dr Harry's has musty smell after awhile - 1 week plus (for ladies) to 2 weeks (for guys) (cant even smell ANYTHING for guys even after one week!) but the thing is tt it holds the smell in n the smell is so called neutralised as compared to wood shavings where u get the full "blow"! it dosent stink up the room as much as wood shavings does? next time then i will do this vs breeder's celect ba! hahah~

2) Dust - definitly LESS dusty MUCH less dusty than woodshavings! whoa!

3) Cost - $5.90 per 10l than can last my 2 containers abt 3 to 4 changes. well pets station dun bring in 20l liao and i last saw 35l at pets nursery at marina sq. of cuz there cost abit more ba. so quite good value compared to breeder's celect and back 2 nature.

4) Absorbancy - Confirm more absorbent than wood shavings. wood shavings cant absorb all of one of my hammies pee, but dr Harry's is able too! another good thing is it dries up much faster!

5) Comfort - Not as comfy as carefresh and sometimes even less comfy as wood shavings but so far my hammies seem to love it think cuz cleaner ba! Guys seem to mind less than ladies...guys would slp on the bedding but ladies prefer the plastic bottom~

6) Burrowbility - I find tt burrowing in this and wood shavings also abt the same ba except this one when burrow wah can hear the bedding like stones like tt! piak here piak there! but they seem to be having fun wor! hahaha burying themselves in the bedding!

Conclusion: It's ability to last 2 weeks for my males and abt 1½ weeks near 2 weeks for my females is sth to be commended. My wood shavings only lasted abt 5 days b4 it started to stink in my ladies cage. abt a week or so for the guys.

Pros:
Cheap - value for $$
Light
Very absorbent
Odor Free
Long lasting even for heavy peeing or many hammies
Comfy enough
Can be burrowed in

Cons:
Colour abit duller
Like "rocks"
only comes in 10l packages
hard to find now adays
lesser as not as compressed as brands like carefresh

Rating 4.5/5 Mr & Mrs NightRaven Points!!!!!

-to be continued- :D

haha nah...they will still burrow...cuz most hammies also dun slp on the bedding they prefer to slp on the flat plastic instead :)

my hammies finding it great so far :) they still do what they do when using wood shavings..so....but yea to me still abit hard also la!

haha how? enjoying ur stay at shc?

Can use for guinea pigs and rabbits? How do you rate it compared to breeder's choice cat litter which I current use for my guinea pigs?

Thing is, this seems a LOT cheaper than BC? Though I know one shouldn't look at just volume cos I think BC is a lot more compressed? I dunno, but BC is quite heavy on the pocket.. :waterhead

Certain types of cat litter can be used for small animals, actually..

Smell is one issue.

But the phenols and hydrocarbons in wood shavings are known to be darn harmful to small animals... soft wood shavings, in particular.

Even those humans who worked in soft wood mills.. experienced respiratory problems.. imagine our little animals... :(
