Dear Hammies Expert,

Help need as inexperience dad and mum happily bought 2 winter whites (1 male & 1 female) 2 mths ago. Today, status elevated to granddad n grandmum cos baby girl gave birth to 6 litters..... Only then, we did some research and realised the seriousness if they carry on breeding and inbreeding and...... then we'll end up with lots of them which we can't manage...

What should we do now? Separate our ah boy & ah girl? We're ok to allow adoption of the babies (as long as they survive and not get eaten up by mummy).

Advice much appreciated.

yes u should seaparate them asap. cuz hamsters breed again immed after giving birth..

anyway u mean 6 pups ba not 6 litters! haha~ anyway do not...DO NOT disturb the nest or cage for at least 2 weeks....if mum angry she'll eat all the pups especially if she's a first time mum... any other scent including familiar ones might be taken for intruders and she'll not be too happy abt it! so dun touch the pups! go to the cage only to replace water and food!

i would say give them up for adoption :) but do check that u give them to good ppl who would take care of them n not breed them again.
