Where to find TOslink cable? whie4x Dec 16th, 06, 02:30 AM #1 (permalink)
Hi guys, was wondering where i can purchase the optical SPDIF (Toslink) cable... Was thinking of using it to connect my PC to my speakers. Is the optical cable better than the coaxial or the other way around. Does DTS and DOlby Digital work with Optical cable? I've read from my speakers manual that both of them use the coaxial connection...

Thanks and Cheers...

To put it simply, Optical is transmits information via light and is considered less subsceptable to interferrence while Coaxial is analogus in format and it carries information electrically.

DTS and Dolby Digital requires an optical cable connection in order to work.

But I'm a bit curious over your speakers though and how its able to accept a digital coaxial (?) connection because indicating Coaxial could mean your run-of-the-mill RCA connectivity. Perhaps you could give us the model of your speakers?

Cheers!

Actually, i'm currently using on-board sound... Was thinking of getting a sound card. The X-Fi XM doesn't have either coxial or optical at the PCI slot and i dont want a cable connecting from the front 5.25" Drive with the Fatality...

Was thinking of getting the X-plosion or X-Meridian, but heard there are problems with gaming... Still in a dilemma as to which soundcard to get...

Cheers...

Get the digital I/O from creative and connect it to the X-Fi music through flexijack. you can use both coaxial or optical.

p/s: Optical good for movies and game. Coaxial good for music..

Thanks, will look it up.

By the way, i've just bought the Canare cables. Do you guys like braid it with techflex and heatshrink or just use it as it is. It doesnt look too fancy in its original state... If you do 'deco' them, where do you get the braids and heatshrinks specifically...

Cheers...

many shops at the aldelphi does it. There's also a shop called Stereo Electronics in Causeway Point doing that too. If not, you can ask Yantronic to do it for it at a small fee.

Anyways for the Z-5500, I recommened the Xplosion 7.1 gold soundcard.

nope. If I remembered correctly, someone here in the forums is a staff from htpc-gear. Maybe you can contact him.
