need some advise on USB soundcard jxchen1983 May 7th, 12, 05:37 AM #1

hi guys, am pretty new into USB soundcard and I need some pointers. pls throw in your 2 cents recently I brought a creative T3130 2.1 speakers and it's connected to my onboard soundcard in my laptop and im looking into upgrading the soundcard using the creative x-fi 5.1 pro. do you guys think it's worth it? main usage is for movies and gaming only. no looking into upgrading the speakers yet as I just brought the speakers and wondering does the usb soundcard enhance the whole sound experience?

It most likely won't affect/improve your sound in any way, unless you notice hissing or static when connected to your laptop's output.

ah, thx for the fast respond guys ok point noted! but is it becoz the soundcard is useless or the speakers kinda bottleneck the soundcard? if that's the case what kind of speakers should go with that USB soundcard? just to add on I might be getting a headset for nite gaming will that soundcard work with it? and what kind of headset should go with it?

Will you be using microphone?

If yes, for beginners, I'd suggest getting those USB headset/mic combo.

for the headset most likely I will be going for those standard 50mm drivers kind, not buying those "gaming" headset as I dun need mic. you mean I should skip the sound card and go for things like SteelSeries V2?

For that kind of money, a Sennheiser PX360 will vomit in its face.

But that one may be quite sensitive to the high noise from your laptop's output, though.

If you really must use a laptop USB sound card, you can try the X-Fi HD USB. Or for a little bit more, Arcam rPAC (my personal favourite to recommend anyone looking for an entry level DAC).

They have a range of very well received budget headphones.

There are other sites that have reviewed them as well.

The reviews only go so far. The best test is your ears.
