I not sure will modding fix some of the problems. U run measurement on it or if not u can try measuring similar chipset as the USB HD. Should be a CA0189

OEM - Chips - CA0189

I sure modding will not fix some of the problems.

You might want to reduce the output level by 6dB to see if the third harmonic, which is contributing the most to THD, goes away.

But the results is just horrible, the Sound Blaster Digital Music Premium HD have exponential increase in distortion after 2khz and reaches to 0.003% to 0.01% at around 10khz

And to my surprise a cheaper $89 perform more linear than the above:

meh... yeah sian.

after so much browsing still end up at RME and lynx... even for digital output.

have you tried E-MU pcie?

i can get the lynx AES16e for about 700usd

I guess no point... might have to consider selling it away...

Lynx super expensive... RME pricing still ok, can consider getting. I heard from review that M-Audio USB Transit quite good for recording and playback... now I hunting it for a 2nd hand resale, though still no luck

The only E-MU that I can find in Sim Lim is E-MU Emulator X Professional, might consider trying them, if not might get Tascam us-144 mk2

Product: US-144MKII | TASCAM

Maybe you can get the NwAvGuy's ODAC. That one measurements sure no problem haha. Unless you are talking about line in.

Mostly people don't perform a cross-specturm sine step excitement to measure the over the range of freq. From what I read on his blog, he also don't perform that the best I find is 10khz Specturm measurement.

I think I will be investing on a proper measuring device... waste too much time on low-end and entry ones... But finding one portable is really difficult, specially going up to 192khz...

Anyway, the Sound Blaster Digital Music Premium HD issues been escalated from the email reply from Creative.

I doubt they will come to any conclusions, and if they ask me to tune my system to suit their USB device. Sorry.... I don't have time for that... my main work is loudspeaker design.... not soundcard calibrator, I don't get paid for that...

You can ask him to test. I don't think he'll mind that much.

Or maybe ask alamakazam to try once they touch SG.

Some good news about "Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro" its amazing that this cheaper alternative perform pretty good on 96khz sampling. Quite linear distortion behaviour.
