No idea why there is a need to censor when this is such a well known brand.

Not sure about the staunch believers from the objective/measurements camp. But I think for the money (EDIT: with or prior to the raise), it's a pretty good product. It's a real shame that legacy PCI slots are increasingly hard to find on high-end SFF motherboards, though. They seem to exist only on the really scary entry-level mATX ones.

I have no idea what brand is that. What is it?

PCI slot is not a problem. Asus Sabertooth X79 has it.

Sabretooth is not SFF.

Anyway, personally, I don't see any need for this cloak and dagger approach.

Cantatis Audio had always been using this format of email marketing to subscribed lists/users on its customer database and there is an opt-out link in all of its emails.

LOL...Nigerian prince...what bull.

That's strange...cos I swore this forum was fawning all over it some years back when it was first released.

I've personally heard their soundcard at a trade show, though. It's definitely up there with the likes of outboard USB DACs in the $500 to $1000 price bracket.

990FX still isn't HTPC friendly, though. Unless you like big boxes.

You have to remember, wenas' idea of a HTPC is one in a Fractal Design XL case.

There are cases like the GD07/GD08 that will accommodate ATX motherboards, amongst others.

Those sort of cases are a bit LPPL, IMO. Also, they are usually not very elegant.

But YMMV, I suppose.

The case tucked away nicely out of sight. Only 2 cables coming out of the case that is the Firewire to the DAC and the HDMI direct to the projector. Perhaps for future set up, I will put it to a receiver.

A lot of mATX board also come with PCI slot (especially the older P67/H67 based).

Some H77/Z77 boards also have PCI slots. A quick google yielded the ASROCK H77M that has 2 PCI slots.

They are strictly direct sales only, I think.

I've just had a closer look. The new price at £497 is just plainly stupid. You would have to shoot me with a minigun to get that me to spend that sort of money on that product.

The offered "subscriber" price is £189 (slashed from £299), which was what I had based my earlier verdict on. Doesn't mean that when I say it sounds like a £500 DAC means that it should be priced that way. Idiots.

Looks like another audio company heading for guaranteed suicide to me.

BTW, anyone who wants the email can PM me. Think I'll pass.

Not exactly my definition of a "high-end" SFF-friendly board but I'll give you that and eat my words. Nice find.
