Hey Guys, I am a complete noob when it comes to home theatre system. A few questions:

1) Is A/V receiver necessary if I just want to hook up a blu ray player and speakers (7.1 or 5.1) to a LCT TV?

2) If so, care to recommend a A/V receiver and speakers for around $1500 or less?

Thank you!

What would be the budget for a reasonable set up?

Went down to Adelphi today and was recommended this set of ELAC speakers (Cinema 2? - $1600) and Marantz AV receiver (SR4002 - $400+) for around $1900+. I must say, the sound was very impressive when playing movies, and more so when music was played. He also recommended Denon AVR-1909 ($650) if I want a better receiver.

Is it a good buy?
