Current price list for various earphones/headphones hibernated Jun 28th, 09, 09:16 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi All,
After spending a sweet one year with my samsung K-3 and stock earphones i recently bought the i-pod touch 2g but the stock apple earphones were even worse then the samsung ones.
So i thought to try out some good phones to better appreciate my new investment. I decided my budget to be around S$100 and started looking for some reviews online. Here is what i found :-
A. :- X123 can is better then X321 but Y123 sucks.
B. :- No leh, I like Y123, it has more warmth and treble. X321 sucks.
C. :- You both are moron, X321 is the best at it's price, all else is waste.
B. :- Blah blah....
D. :- Blah blah blah....
A. :- more blah blah blah....

After 2 days of browsing thorugh i am nowhere. Some says to try it out yourself at adelphi or SE. I appreciate that but before going to the shop you have to shortlist some of them as you can't try em all
So the moral of all this long story is :-
"One decides his budget first and then he looks for the best can within that budget."

I had decided on my budget but didn't knew which cans fit that. If i had the prices, i would have simply selected a few of them, have read reviews and then would have gone to adelphi and had come back with one which i liked the most
So to cut the big story short, i invite all of you ppl who have bought there cans in last 3-4 months to mention there prices in this thread. And strictly just brand and price please (no more "it rocks", or "this is the best")
It might save 2 days of browsing time for someone else

To start with, here are some prices :-
Sub 100$ cans :-
1.) Ultimate Ears MetroFi 100v IEM - my friend bought 1 month back from Challenger @ 69.90$
2.) Sennheiser CX300 IEM - 99.90$ Apple sg store price
3.) Sennheiser PX200 headephone (closed) - 89.90$ Apple sg store price
4.) Sennheiser PX100 Headphone (open) - 69.90$ Apple sg store price
5.) Sennheiser HD 218 Headphone (closed) - 79.90$ Apple sg store price

29 views and not a single reply with the price
What you have to do is just reply with the name, time at which bought and price of your can... is it that difficult?

up ur budget abit. Ultimate ears super.fi 3.pro (~150$ish). westone um1 (~170$ish) .. not sure if shure se102 (similar to scl2 i guess), is within 100$ too though..

i suggest the first 2 though, try them urself and u will buy it haha... not really sure about the price .. i gave an estimate i last remembered them.. stereo/jaben sells almost similar price except jaben bundles it with stuff.. might make it cheaper if u can find someone to share..

oh ya i bought the um1 long time ago.. hehe, and i occasionally still listen to them once in a while.

@larrytok -> Thanks for the prices and suggestion but as this would be my first step towards the audiophile direction (I think so ), i want to play safe. Will see, and if i get a strong liking then i might move for more deadly poison
So for now my budget will be around 100 only (preferably under 100)

@mokky_123 -> What is the store price of Soundmagic pl50?

I put my mp3 to normal EQ, turned the knob to bass off. The music sounded crisp and clear. No bass at all. But you can hear every single detail.

Drive-in for about 12 hrs, pick it up again and tested it. The mids and the highs are getting better. Some stuff can now be heard through this phones (previously can be heard from UE also, but not on the normal earphones). kudos for that!

I burnt it for another 12 hrs, and then listened while on the way to school. Sound stage was perfect. You feel the instruments playing beside you like what you can hear in a studio. (maybe i set my EQ to "studio", thats why). But all is wonderful. Bass knob is turned towards the "bass" mode, and the sound was not as loose as what you hear from the Sennheisers... definitely much better than that.

Accidentally left my mp3 on for the rest of the day. This time round when I picked it up and listen while on the back home, it took me a while to realize that this is just another $70 earphones!!

It was simply awesome. The sound has already far exceeded my expectation I set for my UEs already. The bass is cool, crisp and clear mids and highs. The sound is as if it came from a double driver phones. Simply awesome.

I'm going to burn in another few more hours to let you guys see the review. Up till now, the phones are out-performing my expectations. If it is really comparable to E4Cs, I'd really strongly believe that!
Shure E4C equivalent IEM (earphones) - SoundMagic PL30

I guess no need to say, anyone who receive this earphones will simply be awed by the sound. Instead of the muddy sound that PL30 gives, the PL50 gives u a super clear sound stage, plus an additional touch of the mids. Superb for people who likes mids.

Also, soundmagic has did some reflection on their build of earphones now. Instead of having their wires loosely dangled on your ear (like what happened to PL30s, PL50 has included a cable guide so that it can guide the wires around your ears nicely. Perfect fit for anyone who wants to go jogging with it, because it will not drop out!!

I'm gonna collect my amp from Jaben soon, will be doing some awesome reviews after the amp!!

Conclusion - dealers dun use their ears when listening. Sohaiz...

Anyway, if a dealer can sell it for $80, it means it can be bought for less than that.

Well, yesterday my friend bought the Koss porta-pro @ 80$ from Plaza Singapura. I got the chance to try it. It was good but i was not awestruck - a feeling that I was expecting from a headphone which is considered much better then a stock earphone.

I am using the earphone that came with my samsung K3 (samsung EP-360). I could notice the difference but was not impressed. Any better ideas?

Bought a Shure SE210 recently at $199 from Jaben. Still made it in ur 100+ requirement.

Anyway sometimes earphones (or speakers, or women for that matter) not "first impressions friendly".

I can't say for the Koss vs ur Samsung coz i've heard neither. A short overview of the Shures would be its quite mild compared to other earphones which gives more impact on bass and treble. But After a while u might start appreciating the details the Shure delivers. Thats not to say its neutral and boring tho, in fact it sounds more expressive and less fatiguing than other coloured earphones.

In short, u need time to get accustomed to it to know whether u like the sound or not. Earphones that blow u away in the first 5 min wont necessarily sound good after a while either.
