Question About TC-7510 TCC vs Beresford - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio
There are always two sides to a coin anyway. Taken from Head-fi:

Quote:
Seriously, some of the comments I've read on here have been extremely harsh. Much the same as the fanboys on computer forums - "Don't touch a Celeron. They're sheet." is so often said - and what happens? A processor capable of far, far more than anyone needs for email, playing movies and listening to music, gets thrown aside for no reason other than muppets regurgitating something they heard on the grapevine.

If certain people are signing up purely to try and gain business for the company in question (sic.: forum clones), then that is something else, a matter in it's own right. I don't agree with such antics, but I've not seen any evidence of them on here(not saying that they haven't happened, just that all I see is Beresford-bashing).
Pretty sums up my search on Beresford so far.

There is absolutely no doubt in this case as to what forms the backbone of his product. Afterall, aren't Chinese manufacturers of other digital products (not necessarily hifi) doing the same with other "clones"? Just pure business tactics (albeit a little underhanded).

End of the day, it's always "caveat emptor" (maybe the CE mark at rear of such products should mean this as well? lol) or "let the buyer beware". If the buyer chooses a certain product above another and is happy with his purchase; there would be no case anymore, would there?

You can take a product, rebrand it and sell it and provide your support, it's fine by me, there are people who still support rebranded product for its support and service even if they know it's been rebranded.
To me this is no different from a US (or western/non-Chinese) online shop selling the same product more expensively than China sources, but you also get a better brand name and more bragging rights. Or like people still buy triple.fi locally for $699 when it can be had online for less than $300, it's one's choice, granted incomplete knowledge plays a part.

But the behaviour and actions of Stanley Beresford is disgusting, he tried to fill the community with a cloud of lies, challenged anyone who tried to uncover solid facts, and ultimately got banned for having clones that spread bad recommendations. Would you buy a product by such a person?

Beresford is the epitome of PR fail.

I do not deny that. If he had been more tactful in his dealings (both with his OEM and customers), the outcome would have been mightily different (based on existing reviews of his product so far).

Heard of the phrase "excellence is the new average"?

In most audio reviews, everything is excellent.

Perhaps it had better be, in order to justify the pretty hefty price tag. (£140 before VAT and delivery).

Also, I wonder if anyone here had also noticed that there is apparently also an "upscale" version of the 7520? It's called the "Caiman" (or 7520SE) and it retails for £200 before VAT and delivery.

While there is no explicit mention for the 7520, the 7520SE claims to employ the use of a WM8716 DAC with LM4562NA O/A along with the same PCM2902 USB input chip. I don't have the money to try that option out, though. Not even with CNY money.

Ok, enough of O/T stuff on Beresford already. Let's wait for Noobzpro to come back and give us a review on the Maverick and the B-7510. This is still a Maverick thread, afterall.

There are technically 3 versions of the TubeMagic. The first is the original design, it does not have the "Line-in" 1/4" jack in the front and does not have opamp sockets. The second was upgraded with a new front panel layout including the "Line-in" 1/4" jack and opamp sockets inside. The third one only the following differences; lowered gain output by about 20% and new volume control for more linear control. The third may be the current one shipping but ask Ryan (Owner of Maverick Audio) before purchasing.

Still not bitperfect from usb but i doubt not many ppl have 24bit tracks anyhow.
seems like I can spend some money soon.

Was rushing off so didn't have time to finish typing.

What I was trying to show in the above picture is that it is possible to select 24-bit in Foobar using DS even if the hardware cannot do that, the device's driver just converts it to whatever is possible for the hardware.

Well, thanks to some people who decided to modify the drivers from C-Media we now know that the USB interface chip inside the Maverick is a CM108 from the VID/PID and driver file names (the "custom" USB driver is just the CM108 driver version 5.12.8.1801 with some names modified). And the datasheet from C-Media was not explicit, but from what I know the CM108 chip (which is found in cheaper stuff than PCM2704) is not capable of 24-bit/96kHz, and my stand stays until proven otherwise.

The reduced sibilance can be due to reduced treble information from unnecessary resampling. Another case of "it sounds better when it's worse"?

went down today, said stocks came in before CNY.
So don't know if its the new batch with linear volume pot and the reduced gain.

Left my number with them to get back to me.
