Hi experts,

Appreciate if you can advise on the below scenario:

i got a DVD player with audio output for RCA cables, can i get the cable as per below pic and connect the DVD player directly to speakers with 3.5mm aux-in for sound output?

Sounds alright if you're using active speakers that allow aux-in. Don't expect anything fantastic for sound quality, though.

I just need sound output, qualitywise is okay.
Btw what do you mean by "active" speakers?

the speakers you linked to above will work fine if you're using speakers with stereo/aux-in e.g. PC speakers.

active speakers are basically speakers that have their own internal power source and built-in amplifier. as opposed to passive speakers which require a separate amplifier unit to supply power and drive the speakers.

No problem if you are using those powered PC speakers.

Just ensure that you have the right cable 3,5mm to RCA female plugs.

Volume control is dependent on DVD player if speakers are not equipped

Power PC speaker only 2.1 max.
5.1 you'd need something like a receiver to direct/channel the sound.

Meaning? Sorry a noob here, can i use a 2.1 speakers with aux-in if sound quality is not an issue? Or will need a 5.1 no matter what?

most 2.1 has stereo mini so just plug in the output of your dvd player - RCA to Stereo mini female adapter.

I'm saying that you cannot use those computer speaker which is 5.1 units because the dvd player has no capabilities to do multi channel.
