HDMI connections (too many) Wins88 Jul 5th, 06, 10:46 AM #1 (permalink)
Just bought a new LCD Samsung TV 40" HDTV ready which comes with ONLY 1 HDMI input. However, I got swept up in the whole "Home theatre inprovement frenzy" and shelled out extra $$$ on the following - a new DENON3910 DVD player, and a LG 1999 DVD HD recorder - both with HDMI outputs! To make matters worse - I happily got myself on the Starhub HDTV trial (this cable box looks best using HDMI). Overzealous Sales dude at Adelphi sold me some really expensive Component cables but I find the performance still not up to HDMI and I like the convenience of HDMI. Hence - my problem - 3 items using HDMI and one input on my LCD TV. Is there anyplace that sells a 3 or 4 in one switch box for 4 HDMI inputs and one HDMI output? Thanks for your kind input and help.

eh, no need to buy a hdmi splitter... BUT, it's best that you get a A/V Amp... the newer ones have hdmi in and out. So, just connect all your DVD players/recorders and SCV box to the amp hdmi inputs, and use one output from the amp to your TV.

Bro for your system set up i believe you have a good AV receiver right? Just hook up everything into the receiver then output from amp to your LCD.

Btw whats your AV receiver and speaker set up?

I am using the same Gefen Unit, the HDMI EXT-441.

It works GREAT!! But I do have issue. It switches with a remote control. There is NO manual switch.......if remote control doesn't work.......there is no way of switching.

Are the supplied cables that comes along with the unit any good? If not, I would have to shell out $$$ to buy QED HDMI cables (which are highly rated)! THanks for your advice in advance!

Comes with THICK light blue jacket HDMI cables....looks very good indeed. Been using it instead of the OEM cable that comes with the player, which pales in comparison.

Ok, the Gefen HDMI 4-1 HDMI switcher arrived last Friday. Box comes with IR remote (cos the unit cannot be switched manually) and 4 powder blue HDMI cables, and 2 spare remote control batteries (how thoughtful!). I connected 3 HDMI componenets - HDTV starhub cable box, HDMI output from DVD player (DENON 3910), and DVD recorder (LG DVD recorder model 1999) and output into a 40" Samsung M61 LCD TV HDMI input. However, instead of the supplied cables, I invested in QED Qunex HDMI-P cables to connect the entire rig.
On connection, I needed to adjust the EQ behing the GEFEN switcher unit to reduce the "noise" in the connection for all 3 inputs. After performing the "noise" reduction on the manual EQ levelers behind the unit - I am pleased to report that this HDMI Switcher is worth every penny of the USD$399 I paid for it! Crisp sharp pictures and exquisite sound is the reward (plus I dun have to plug in and out HDMI cables to switch from one medium to another!).
