anodizing Alu Hiace83 Apr 28th, 09, 11:21 AM #1 (permalink)
Hi guys,

anyone able to give a gauge on the pricing to anodizing a pcs of sidepanel with a big window? Meaning to say, you only need to anodized the border only.

And also, if the side panel is previously sprayed with paint, is anodising still possible?

Thanks

normally they would go by the weight of the workpiece.

and you must strip the paint off before doing anodizing.

hmm..judging from your experience..lets said the side panel is an aluminium with a big window in the center, so basically i am just anodising the border, roughly how much would it cost?
would it cost more than 50bucks?

what kind of anodizing you talking about?

clear? black? red? blue?

for clear/ black i would say no way it's more than $50

$20 max i would say.

eh, you cant just anodize the edge.. The process is basically dipping the entire panel into an electrolyte and then using electrolysis to get the oxide layer. Powder coating is cheaper, using a fine mist of powder to coat the item and then baking it in an oven.

Anodizing is expensive. Expect the price to be above $100. You may want to consider powder coating though. A fellow forummer anodized his entire stacker 832 for a total of $800 sgd.

powder coating will be arnd the 20-30 range i believe.

Have to scrap the paint off, and remove the side window prior to anodizing i suppose...

i forgot to mention, anodizing can only be done to alu. Nothing else. And powder coating can only be done to metals. Plastics will melt. From what im deducing from the ts's query, he wants to make a border on the plastic window itself. Not the panel. Am i right?..

ohh Flye thanks for the info..Going for Black color...any shops u can recommend that provide the price as u mentioned? $20 to $50

Nashaz, its a Aluminium Side panel, what i mentioned is not the edge only but the full panel less the Window (No Alu for window area cos being cut off)...internal chassis will be most prob going to DIY spray myself...

Cheers...

oic, but do take note that anodizing is still quite pricey as compared to powder coating. You can contact pissingintel for some quotes on anodizing, if i remember correctly, for a small sheet of alu, about half the size of a typical side panel, it cost him arnd 50, and anodizing, they charge by area, not weight.

actually there's several grades hardness for anodizing.
hence the difference in pricing.
iirc, HAIII is pretty pricy.
testing?

i believe someone mention this shop before.

L2 metal finishing at AMK park 2

i usually anodize small parts for automation machines, so they usually weight my parts and quote me.

you can ask them for a quotation, remember to specify your size of panel
