Question: Will Spraying the insides of casing cause any rusting? SoloWingPixy Apr 30th, 09, 11:41 PM #1 (permalink)
Im planning to use tamiya spray to spray the insides of my cm5 black. Planning to use my tamiya spray from a leftover can after building my model airplane. Im worried if it'll cause any rusting in the long run...any comments?

It will be better if you prime it first. But before all that, you need to really CLEAN the insides.

I would advise against spraying, since the chances of screwing up is REALLY high. By screw up I mean, doing a poor spray job and end up with lotsa peelings over time. Give it some thought. ^^

to answer the question posted: "Will Spraying the insides of casing cause any rusting?"

no, paint doesn't cause rust. it's usually done to prevent rusting; but not if you painted over an already rusty material.

inside of the casing also need to prime? I think the inside of most casing dont have paint on it, juz bare steel/alu?

And i think priming is done becos need to remove the paint 1st so that can apply a new layer of paint over the product.

Won't rust. Rust happens when iron interacts with oxygen in the air. Since your spray probably doesn't contain iron, or at least not much of it, its not going to be an issue. Think about it. When you spray your tamiya car, will they rust? The spray as bianco pointed out, will actually help prevent your casing from rusting because it acts as a protective layer between air and your case.

Priming helps the paint to etch on it. If you don't prime, places in your chassis that has lots of contact friction, will peel over time. It is recommended to prime first before coating the actual paint of your choice.

You don't want to end up regretting when the peeling comes off from time to time.
