Do you think I went overboard? Enemata May 3rd, 09, 12:53 AM #1 (permalink)
This is my first time doing any modding for a computer case.
So having decided to powdercoat the case, I was told it was better to strip down the case, so this is what I did...

Did I get carried away?
I'm rather worried now as Lian Li uses countersunk rivets and I hear they are hard to come by. Looked around today at the whole of jalan besar for black rivets was also fruitless.
Anyone know of a reliable source for countersunk blind rivets? If they come in black, that would be awesome, if not I've decided to just spray it and touch it up when secured.
Also, having read the prices most of you guys paid for, for the powdercoating of your case, I wonder did I get screwed over. I'm about to pay 220 for all the items you see above, with 7 pieces in red and the rest in black, so did I pay too much?
I feel like I'm getting way over my head here....
Thanks in advance for any help.

sounds a little expensive based on other bro's said price. whats more important is u're happy with the result, if not ask them to redo?

im still at the stage of removing rivets.. seemed v hard to do so with a chisel and hammer.. afraid if bending the panels. did u use a drill?

Pro dont use a chisel to remove.. try to find a small acrew.. ard the size of the heart of the rivet.. place it in and screw though.. if yr lucky u can just pull out the whole rivet or.. just unscrew and knock it out on the other side..

Hi, use a drill bit that is smaller than the rivet. If possible, measure the diameter of the rivet (not the top big diameter) & use a 0.5mm smaller drill bit.

Thanks for the replies. I've tried the drilling method, but i dont have a proper drill. eve nwith a proper drill bit size it doesnt drill thru.

as to using a screw to screw thru, i dont think it is possible for lian li rivets because i've tried, unless u mean a method such as centre-punch and knock the screw/centre punch thru the heart of the rivet. however i do not have a sharp enough centre-punch/small screw to drive thru the heart of the rivet. And of rthe record i managed to remove one rivet from ths method, but the screw broke into half upon my 2nd rivet removal. so i went back to using chisel.. LOL sad case.

Anyway, apologies for hijacking TS's thread.

check with yon sheng at Hougang ave 7 for a better price. Look for the boss- Ah Hock 62817962 or try CentralIron at AMK pk 2-64825030.

I think maybe the $220/- is enough to go for anodising.
Check with L2 metal or United alumn, both at AMK pk2.

$220 for powdercoating is definitely expensive.

You can try here:

Blk 11 #01-464, Defu Lane 10, Singapore 529192 Tel: 62875086

Look for david and tell him you would like to powdercoat your casing.

bro, go to defu lane.

david helped me to undo and redo the riveting, not so sure if he'd help you though. but it was worth paying him, nice and friendly chap too.

As you can see in the picture above, I undid all the rivets myself and stripped the whole casing.
Anyway, I can't opt out and move it to defu as I have proceeded with the powdercoating last friday. Just posted here to see if it was overpriced due to the amount of pieces I had.
I did check with david, of defu, prior to deciding to go powdercoat. Somehow my subconscious told me to go with AMK instead.
Going with all the replies, I guess I will be paying too much for the job. So I'll leave with it and only hope that the job is done well.
Thanks guys for your replies.
