try asking around, if you walk around sim lim tower, you should be able to find some materials there.

i got my extension materials from there too when i did extension for my friend.

I don't know how to make the male connector...

I have bought a row of pins... How to use the pins?
Solder the cables onto the pins to make male connector??? But I don't have a soldering gun...

Or make 2 female connectors at both ends of the cable, then poke the pins into one end to make it a male???

Or cramp the cable and pins onto the metal thing first, before inserting into the black header???

I'm confused...

i presume you bought this since you say you got the female side.

mine comes in a strip, yours may be in two's

there's another kind that you solder into the PCB board.

you can use this as the female part. you just have to solder the wire to the pin.

so if you wanna connect 2 female together get something like this.

hmmm.... i made my pin headers this way.

hope it helps.

I think I bought the wrong male connector... The salesgirl gave me item C when I asked for male connector...

I think item A got a male version... item B got a male version with a long pin at the tip... item C is not required...

Sorry for my blur pics... found the 2 pins male connector on my casing fan...

when removed from the black connector, can see the metal thing got a long needle at the tip one...

yes there's a male version for A & B

C is used for Pcb boards.

i've never come across male versions of A nd B in SLT before.

that's why i use a female to convert to a male.

Anything to look out for the wires???

The salesgirl recommended me a 7 core wire, wonder is it suitable??? She said just nice for the 2 pins metal thing to crimp properly...

I wanted a slightly thicker wire but she said what 6 core one, too thick for crimping with the 2 pins metal thing...

Pretty confused with all those things... So I just bought the thinner 7 core one...

Thank you!

normally wires are measured in AWG, not by the number of cores or strands of wires inside.

i don't know what's the diameter of your 7 core cable but those pins that you are going to crimp, one pair of legs got to hold the copper wire, the other pair of legs got to hold on to the insulator.

so if you buy a thick wire the legs may not be long enough to hug on to the insulator.

this pic is more clear.

Thanks for your info...

The 7 core wire which I bought for making the extension cables for the casing is 1mm thick only...
$0.20/m
silver colour insulator

I bought another type of wire to make extension cable for the fans...
2mm thick one...
$0.20/m too
copper colour insulator...

But I think too thick leh! I think 1.5mm thick one might be just nice for making 3 pins connector for fans???

Any recommendation for making the above 2 kinds of cable??? I don't mind buying again since they are so cheap only... One time make good good one and forget about it... Don't need to "upgrade" next time...

Thank you!

Make life easier?

Just cut off the cable, strip it and add in some extension?

If you really want to make it solid, an easy solder job will do nicely. Why do you want to go through the hassle of making another connector? You'll need a crimper or at least some good soldering to make a connector.

what's the usage of your cable?... for LED? fans?

actually the sizing of cables depends on your application.

if current flowing thru it is high and your wire inside is too thin, the wire will heat up and melts, thus shorting the circuit.

but if it's for DC fans, led, dry contacts it doesn't matter cos they draw very little current (< 0.5amp)

anyway it's better to oversize than undersize.

if you think 1.5mm is better, go for it.

btw do you have crimp tool?
