Thanked 1 Times in 1 Post
My 1st time noob spray painting of my old Centurion 5 derekliu Jul 13th, 09, 12:19 PM #1 (permalink)
Uses RJ London spray. Red primer and Signal Red colour for my casing.

My casing before I spray

And after trying out my 1st ever spray paint on a casing (Did a little mod on the top panel, thanks to Gary aka Energizer)

Conclusion:

Alot of practises still need to be put into my skill of spray painting. Cos from the pic u can see some parts of the casing bubbles can be seen, that is due to spray too many layers on the same spot.

Why after applying primer and spray paint, my paint will still wear off due to parts scratching each other, resulting in hairline paint been peel off? Is it the nature of spray paint or is it because the quailty of the spray paint?

From my countless experience with spray painting, it will definitely peel off when met with friction or contact points. Truth is, you can never do a "perfect" paint job without preventing peeling.

With the money spent on the primers and spray paints, it's usually wiser to just powdercoat it. Lasting and more professional finishing. =)

your paints will get scratch off easily due to a few reasons,
Main reason - no clear coat is applied after the paint job
Second - most probably u didn't wait for the primer to dry thoroughly
Third - thick coats of paint have been apply for each layer ( try to avoid doing this)

Tips for people who wants to try out spraying.
1. Always apply thin and even coats.
2. Always spray in the same pattern Eg. left to right motion
3. Allow coats to dry thoroughly before beginning on the next coat
4. If you missed a spot when coating a layer, NEVER go back to "fill it". Don't worry, u can fill it in on the next coat.
5. use the surface of ur finger nails to gently tap on the surface to test if the paint has dried, never use ur fingers
6. I would recommend to let the finish product sit in the open air for 1 week before installing any hardware. (for paints to dry thoroughly).

i hope this helps for future projects.
