Gigabyte motherboard might be faulty? persentio Nov 4th, 09, 10:46 AM #1 (permalink)
Hi CDL,

I recently ran into problems with new OCZ RAM modules, however the odd thing is that all 4 RAM modules keep giving me errors in memtest86+ as well as cause BSODs within Windows (something like Memory_Management) no matter if I stick to Optimized Defaults, or manually configure the RAM modules to make it run as specified. I also did tweaks as recommended by OCZ support staff themselves with no luck.

Could it be that my motherboard's RAM modules are somehow faulty? I would not rule out that I might be extremely unlucky with all 4 for my RAM modules being faulty but now the Motherboard fault is more probable.

My support thread for OCZ as well as screenshots for your reference are here: Support Question Need help: OCZ3OB1600LV4GK seemingly unstable! - OCZ Forum

Thanks for your advise.

Hi bro dmspawn,

I have always set Performance enhance to Standard. All the errors from the stress tests were while the function was set to Standard.

Ok. Will come down now.

Do I need to bring the entire motherboard box + packages?

Also, do you need me to leave my i7 860 on the motherboard? Or you guys can use your own to test? Because I am currently using a third party heatsink.

Any other essential items I need to bring down?

Thank you very much

Ok. However problem is the heatsink is a Megahalems; very huge and heavy and because I don't drive I don't think I want to carry it up on the mrt horizontally. I scared I might bend the board and everything. So is it ok if I just dissassemble the Megahalems but leave the CPU in the socket, and bring the stock Intel cooler along?

Hi Bro Derrick,

Thanks for your company's prompt service today. Just got back and tried stress testing but in the end still got errors in both memtest86+ and Prime95, so I guess its really the RAM problems.. Will go and exchange them. Sorry for the inconvenience...

Hi Bro Derrick,

Got the RAMs exchanged today and the BL service staff told me he tested all the 4 new modules for 15 hours under memtest86+ with no errors. I brought home to self test and so far so good within memtest86+ and Prime95 for 1 pair; running for about total 3 hours now no problems. Think the other pair should be no problem too.

Can't believe I so unlucky to get 4 broken modules though..

Once again thank you so much for your company's service and sorry about the inconvenience!
