GIGABYTE MA770T-UD3P + AMD 550BE UNLOCKABLE

Hi,

I just got the above motherboard about a week plus ago. I just found out if I set the HDD SMART capability to enabled, the system will POST with a long and short beep. I will only encounter this if I do a cold boot but I will not hear it during a reboot. I have checked the SATA hard drive with the WD diagnostic tool and it is confirmed okay. SATA controller is set to AHCI mode. What could be the problem here?

i'm also running 5 hdd on achi and i enable smart. no issue. what bios version are u on. i'm on f4

i could not repeat your problem using my motherboard. what cpu and ram are you using and did you oc? the last time i had cold boot problem on this mobo was that my nb speed was unstable.

I managed to find out the root cause of the long beep at POST. It is due to the BIOS settings of smart cpu fan and cpu fan speed warning being enabled. My aftermarket cooler fan spins at a slower speed compared to the stock HSF fan. After i disabled the cpu fan warning setting in BIOS, I did not hear the long beep anymore. I tried that out after I searched the Gigabyte website FAQ and read about this issue. CPU is 965BE and BIOS is F4. Thanks anyway
