HP TouchPad at COMEX 2011 draws huge (angry) crowd

HP Singapore announced the promotion prices for their WebOS-based TouchPad tablets just a day before the COMEX Show. Needless to say, there are a lot of enthusiastic buyers who want to grab the special offer. But in the end, many were angry and disappointed when they found out the tablets have been fully redeemed even before the show started.

Hi guys, due to safety and security concerns, the sale of the standalone HP TouchPads at COMEX will be discontinued. However, HP PCs purchase with purchase offers for the HP TouchPad will still be available at COMEX.

I think they did the right thing, this way people don't need to wait. Their mistake is that they did not inform anyone that they have already given out all the queue numbers.

The backlash is from all the sore losers that did not manage to get one today.

hmmm, i dun think it was right. there are many other ways to make it right.

since social media like facebook is so popular, why not put it as a ballot system for tomorrow's 200 quantity of touchpad?

by cutting off the sales so cleanly is just going to cause more resentment.

i think they make more mistakes than that. poor management of the queuing tickets is one.

not anticipating the crowds is another.

the brand hp wasn't even something i took notice of till the touchpad promotion

its quite sad that they did not make use of this opportunity to publicize their company unless negative publicity is also equivalent to publicity. >.<

They did give it to the first 200 that queued.

It is really not their fault if people started queues in different places.

I personally think buying a TouchPad because it is cheap is silly, there are better ways to blow $100+. This is a PoS product that has been abandoned by its creators only a month after its release. It never had a chance.

    =O

according to my friends and posts on hp wall before hp cleared it.

apparently the one giving out the tickets did not handle the situation properly.

the crowd broke the lines and the well defined queues ceased to exist.

yup of course its not hp fault, but they should have known there will be a queue. judging from the response in us, and their online promotion. >.<

wouldn't it end better if hp did something instead of letting it fall.

we are not talking bout the dozens of people like the alienware incident where it was settled quite nicely.

the damage to the name probably will be much greater. but i think we will forget after a few months.

i think when the price fall below a certain level, people cease to consider its features.

price is too attractive. they can just use it to view photos or documents.

it is after all a tablet.
