But to be fair, 3 years for a diploma here compared to who knows how long (and how much coffee money) for a degree there with no need to serve NS and ICTs...
(I'm about to enter local uni for a 4-year degree course when UK universities allow me a bachelor's and master's in the same duration!)

We're really at a disadvantage here.

I can understand the influx in the service industry (quite a grey area, I consider them more of FWs and not FTs...) since it is long shunned by locals, but talents that compete with locals solely on the basis of lower wages (like for engineers) (and probably, from employers' point of view, no NS commitments) aren't really talents now are they?

That's my only gripe. We only need workers to fill the gaps and talents truly better than us and nothing more.

$2000 is not high, but it isn't low for one who has been working in the philippines and not in Singapore. With the foreigner vs local competition going around, expectations and standards are high for any workers here. Thus, I believe that if a worker is considered highly productive in the philippines isnt considered as productive when in Singapore. Thus, I still think lowering the expectations is necessary here.

Stomper is obviously trying to troll 60.1%, but lets leave that sentiments there and discuss fairly here.
are you trying to say that just because it is a foreigner doing the same job as a Singaporean, the fact that he or she is a foreigner meant that they deserve lower pay?

do you know that this is considered immoral discrimination and such acts are against the law? good luck.

As an employer, if it is actually around same cash outflow even if the job seeker is asking for $1,800.

WP Levy - Up to $470 + $1,800
S-Pass - Up $250 + $2,000

A lot still depends on the interview and the qualifications. If the HR is not happy with the job seeker's expectations, the HR can always look at other candidates instead. Is there a need to stomp and ridicule his job seeker? The stomper's actions is totally uncalled for.

Fark, on one hand, singaporeans are making noise about depressed wages then some idiots come here and tell us that these FT need to get lower wages........that is the reson why our wages are depressed. These FT should come here and demand $3000 at least so company cannot depend on low wages FT to replace locals.
