Hey people :happy4:

Anyone using a router with built in firewall (hardware). If so, is it still necessary to have a software firewall like Zonealarm?

I have a firewall built in my router so thinking of removing zonealarm coz it interferes with network stuff like the printer.

Heck: What you're feeling now is the unstoppable force, which means that I've got to move.

Features like anti-pop-up and all are in the software firewall.

So by removing it, you may get different webbrowsing experience.

But hackers are ofcourse still blocked by the hardware firewall.

not worried about anti-popup, have other software solutions for it. Just worried about hacker attacks.

hmm, don't worry. Hardware firewall is very soild.

actually, it stands out from software firewall.

having a software firewall is almost useless when you already have a hardware one.

hey deanmartin. thanks for the firewall article. but i'm worried about the blocking of ports by hardware firewalls. if i were to start a server, then i would have to open port 80 and other related ports right? then will there be a risk?

hey people here who have a hardware firewall. pls go test this out.

1. Have a hardware firewall setup.
2. Ensure that all ports are blocked except for port 80.
3. Setup a server to test.
4. See whether u will have a hacker coming into ur server.

I strongly recommend that you have at least *SOME* sort of Software Based Firewall, AND Antivirus. Hardware firewalls are very nice and handy, but unfortunately they cannot do much if: some website you're browsing is designed to load software on your computer, (which lots of sites do, most of the time, spyware) and, that software gathers important information, credit card info, house address, phone, e-mail, anything you name it, and sends it out to any random place over the internet without you knowing. I doubt that your hardware firewall is going to have the capability, or be configured to stop such a threat. However, properly configuring your Zone Alarm, or Norton Firewall (or many others) can prevent such information from being sent out from your computer. Although, for incoming threats and preventing hackers from the outside from getting INTO your computer, little is more powerful then a standalone hardware firewall.
