You can also save special characters in AutoText. If you have never used AutoText, in a doc type dt and hit F3 (no space after dt).
Insert your special charaacter, select it and do Edit > AutoText (or Ctrl+F3). When you give it a name a default shortcut will be displayed but can be changed. Click AutoText and select one new.
So I tried it. When I type dt and Hit F3 I get a whole 15 line paragraph which starts:
