previously in HWZ we managed to organised 4-5 good ones but very basic, installation and open office ones only. need a good location to start off and that time we manage to use a PAP IT Lab located in jurong west opp jurong point as one of the organiser is a volunteer there.

wanted to move on to more things like samba/ apache etc but didn't manage to organise them at all...

good ideas. but i think we try to teach things that most home users would be doing. instead of things like apache and samba.

imho, i think we should have 2 sides which 1 will be for home use and others side will introduce about small/medium business benefit...

create a nice and clear message on presentation using Openoffice Impress is a plus

customer and newbie want creativity idea as they do not have deep understanding on what the open source and FSF is about...so presentation is a foremost introduction for workshop, best if it located at crowded place...

Once few year ago, I come across a man looking for Windows 2K, as I asking if he interested in Linux...guess what he told me? Linux has no standard loh...and he walk away rudely

It true that Linux and Windows are not industry standard but implementation technology is...

What does Standard mean?
It mean being able to be interoperability with others platform that provide portability and compatibility(like your surfing on internet).

Unix have many different vendors that this break compatibility between platform to platform, leading to business needs for compatibility, low-cost licensing and better development tools...therefore MS managed to convinced the customer but only until we realised there lot of security flaw and affected software, have encourage the needs for reliability platform and that Linux have proven that it capable of doing better than Windows in many ways.

It took Linux a decade year for business and consumers acceptance.

sorry for my english...

the opening work should always explain that linux is "not free as in free beer", as we did during the start of each "classes".

yes the internet protocol implemented in MS are standard...I mean Unix share libraries are prone of conflict with others unix vendors as well as high-cost licensing loh...

before there was Windows, MS have ever selling Xenix OS which is Unix modified and they drop it in favour of Win32 api...generally I known some history since the beginning of Unix timeline

Internet is a standard.. regardless whether is it linux, unix or Microsoft. Just side track abit, everything from internet started on a unix . Linux is a scale down of unix and Microsoft Windows originated actually from IBM's OS2 Warp
