Windows 98 cannot play DVD??? guru899 Oct 31st, 05, 05:03 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi all,

My computer is running on Win's 98. Recently, I bought a Benq 1650V DVD-ROM. After installing, I can play DVD. There is sound but no image/picture.

I had tried uninstall & install again, searches many sites for help but to no avail.

Can anyone help.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Macdy,

I did but still cannot.

Do you know how to play DVD with Windows Media Player? What software do I need to download?

Thanks,

sometimes u just need to install and update Windows Media Player. but for this case, best method is use another program.

it's called VLC.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

confirm can work with DVD.

Probably its missing codec. Try DivX player. Download it from downloads.com or try to downlaod WMP 10. See if it works. Sorry i not using Win 98 so I don't know the best solution for you.

dvds does not need any codecs to play them. they're uncompressed video format. probably you need a realiable dvd player like WinDVD or PowerDVD.

And how much RAM did your friend's computer originally have?
