USB Mouse Only Works in Safe Mode on Windows XP Pro SP3 sghardwareguy Sep 24th, 09, 01:00 AM #1 (permalink)
My USB mouse only works in safe mode but not in the normal mode. Any idea how to debug this issue?

In the normal mode, the mouse only moves for about 5 seconds during the login screen. After that, it stops responding. After a while, it responds and stops again.

I suspect some software is messing up the mouse but I am not sure how to debug this. Ideas anyone?

could you post the device manager screenshoot to see the status of the USB device under one of the controller?

or if you have idea how to disable both of the Enhanced USB Controller, disable both would go back to the USB 1.1 interface which may get your mouse working.

I took those screen shots in Safe Mode. There are no mouse driver errors in both safe mode and normal mode. However, the mouse moves only for a few seconds in normal mode before it locks up.

So did you try to disable the controller with the "Standard Enhanced..." in normal mode?

Yes I did try to disable the Enhanced controllers. What happened was, it could no longer detect my USB devices.
