Yeah Windows 7 is just an improved Vista with some features here and there.

Anyway I've used both, Windows 7 feels a wee bit peppier (but it can be due to fresh installation and different SSD controllers - Indilinx vs Intel).

Both don't give me any problems, and I'm happy with Vista so I'll just stick with Vista for now as you can see from my signature.

IMHO. XP (WinNT 5.1) is a clone of 2K (5.0)

Next topic pls.

BTW Win7 is NT 6.1, just to share.

what Real Windows 7 is only available next year? They are all using the same code base and kernel with minor changes except for most drivers, security mechanism, GUI, .Net framework, etc, to improve the functionality of 7.

Their kernel I guess may excess 4 millions lines of code.

How to tell if the NT version is different:

When your drivers from the previous version don't work.

Same goes to apple, linux etc.....

using same kernel with minor changes except for most drivers, security mechanism, gui (gnome), etc.

OS-X has not had a major rollover since it was started, adding all the updates together, you probably already paid more than you could if you bought Windows 7 rofl.

Err... cant disagree more with a few of the opinions here. Windows 7 is worlds better than vista. The sheer fact that windows has finally optimized hyper threading and is working is about time. working with CAD and CUDA is so much faster in windows 7 than vista. the legacy support is 90% bug free. Vista did not even have a working legacy support. RAID support in windows 7 is clearly faster than vista as well.

A ton of optimizations has been done with windows 7. For those saying windows7 = slightly updated vista, please check carefully. CPU core usage has been streamlined for better optimizations based on program used as well (though this still needs work, it is a good step forward). Problem step recorder is a god bless for IT techs as well. Come on... seriously... can you still say 7 = vista? in terms of boot up times.. i take around 10sec max seconds to boot into windows and even less to shut down... maybe you wanna check your hardware first before bashing a good OS. vista plain sucks i totally agree.. windows 7 is however done right.

Now this being said and done, I believe there are still factors that can be done to improve windows 7. for example, further support for RAID SSD and TRIM. although TRIM is fully supported now, it is still not supported in RAID. Though, this is mostly intels job.

I believe the windows 7 prices are affordable for the OEM packs. Also, many of us are part of MSDN and technet so we get it free anyway. College students get it for free or for 30 bucks.
