8 September 2009 – Panasonic is taking F1 to young people in Singapore and nurturing their spirit of experimentation by launching the “Get Me to the Race” Car Design Contest. The aim – to find innovative, budding would-be engineers who can construct a model car using only recycled materials. A winner will be chosen by Jarno Trulli, the Toyota-Panasonic F1 driver, with a pair of tickets to the F1 Paddock Club, as well as exclusive Panasonic-Toyota race memorabilia.
The competition is open to all Singaporean and residents in Singapore aged 7 to 13. Participants will have to email three photos showing the front, side and rear views of their creations to corpcomms@sg.panasonic.com with a short description on the number of materials used in the construction. Entries can be submitted from 7 to 21 September 2009. They will be judged according to the level of creativity exhibited in the overall design, as well as the type of materials used. Five entries will be shortlisted and exhibited for public voting at Ion Orchard on Driver’s Day, 23 September 2009.
“F1 has always been perceived to be a sport for the elite. We are trying to change that perception by organising initiatives that would pique the public’s interest and satisfy their curiosity about the sport. We hope that through the “Get Me to the Race” Car Design Competition, we would be able to reach out to youth, get their creative juices flowing when trying to create a car out of recyclable materials and, ultimately, reward them for their efforts with tickets to the F1 Paddock Club,” said Christopher Lim, Manager, Corporate Communications Group, Panasonic Asia Pacific.
Members of the public who voted for the winner on-site on 23 September 2009, 1300-1530 hours will stand to win a pair of F1 Bay Grandstand tickets for the race on 27 September 2009. The public will also get a close-up with Jarno for autograph and photo-taking sessions.
